They were coming. Synge watched them as they approached. There was around 15 knights galloping toward her cave. They held their swords high, cheering as another knight spoke. He seemed to be the leader. Synge couldn't fight them all, not if they attacked all at once. And with their fire-proof shields Synge couldn't burn them. Her best option was to flee if she wished to protect her eggs.
Synge took off. Then she hovered back into her cave. She carefully grabbed an egg with each talon. Then flew into the open sky. Shouting came from beneath her as the warrior noticed her departure. "Archers to your mark," the leader called. Bow were strung. "Open fire!" Arrows whistled pass Synge. A few struck in between scales, one torn her wing membrane, and another pierced through an egg and wounded her back left talon.
Synge roared in anger and pain. She turned and breathed fire roasting horses, bows, arrows, and some knights, including the leader. The group was torn into madness. Horses on fire galloped around panicked. Shouts of horror rang through the air. A few stray arrows were shot into the air. Synge turned back away from the chaos and continued flying.
She was headed north away from this horrible place. She flew onward for the rest of the day without resting. Dusk was soon upon Synge. She couldn't fly any farther, she had to rest. Wearily, Synge flew to a mountainside. There wasn't a cave in sight. So instead, Synge hovered over a ledge, and set the three remaining eggs on it. Then, she land by them and slept.Synge awoke to the tweeting of birds, as usual. She half suspected to be back in her cave, surrounded by glittering gems and some fresh meat waiting to be eaten. Then she remembered her decision to leave. It would be a hard journey, to where Synge didn't know. But, she had to keep moving or else the humans would catch up to her.
She lifted into the air with her eggs and looked to the south where they would come from. Then she noticed a caravan that seemed to be coming in Synge's direction the humans were already following her. Synge shook her head and flew north.
