Well, this is certainly new.
Hayato noticed a person crawling on the sand while walking along the beach. Looking over his shoulder, he saw him. It was a boy with fair skin and a strange scar on his neck. It oddly looked like the moon and the sun.
It was these qualities and the fact he was completed naked.
Hayato rushed over, taking his jacket off in the process. The boy looks near to passed out, maybe even dead. But when the pirate flipped him over, their eyes met.
"Hey, are you feeling okay?" he asked. He wraps his jacket around the shivering boy. "You must be freezing."
The washed-up boy seemed confused. "I'll get you back to my ship. It's warm there." Hayato griped his underarms and helped him up. However, the boy slumped over. "Can you walk?"
The boy said nothing and looked perplexed at the strange noises coming from Hayato's mouth. "Maybe he doesn't speak our language." he thinks.
Hayato notices that he's tense and frightened. He cannot communicate with the boy with mere words.
The pirate decides to rub his back and wrap his arms around him. Rocking back and forth, he reminisces about his father and how the man did this for Hayato when he was down.
The boy eases up, although not entirely. The boy does not reciprocate the hug, but he no longer looks in fear.
"We got to get you back somehow," Kamitani says softly. The boy looks too exhausted to be dragged across the beach, so Hayato hitches him onto his back.
He's light to carry, almost too light.
The boy doesn't make a sound, simply looking at the ocean. It's like he's frozen in time. "Fight, flight or freeze, I guess."
Hayato looks at the water as well. It's such a wonderous place. One day, he wants to sail all over it. He whistles a tune, an old ballad. Its origins are unknown, although his elders told him that it's known by almost everyone who connects with the sea.
Surprisingly, the boy hums with him. He vocalizes softly, no words, only sounds.
They continue to harmonize until they reach Hayato's boat. The boy looks up at it, curiosity flaring in his chest.
Hayato brings him inside, walking down the stairs to place him on a bed in a private room. He turns around, digging in a drawer for some extra clothes. Kamitani hands the boy a pair of brown pants and a black shirt. He lays him down and places a stack of towels beside him.
"Here, you can change into these clothes. They seem about your size," Hayato says, rubbing his forehead. The boy finally seems to understand his words and picks up the clothing.
The boy begins to take off Hayato's coat before trying on the shirt.
"Woah, Woah." Hayato yelps, shaking his hands in front of his eyes. "I'm going to give you some privacy, be quick."
The pirate spins on his heel and jogs away grumbling. "What a strange kid."

Ryuuichi was left there in that empty room, dumbfounded. How'd he manage to end up here? At first, he couldn't understand the human, but the potion fully settled in, and he could finally listen to his voice. It's gruff but also light.
Ryuu struggled with the pants. He put them on upsidedown and through the wrong holes. Eventually, Kashima slipped his new limbs through, looking at the fabric. After completely changing, he waited for the human to return.
He lowered his face into his hands, shivering. He wasn't scared. Never mind, he was terrified. This new world is much different than what he expected, but the sights of the sky helped calm his nerves.
While travelling through the sea, Ryuuichi came up with a plan for once the potion ran out. For each second that went by, the now human man repeated it to himself like a mantra.
Every day, he'll return to shore and sit by the sea. In the case that he returns to his merboy form, he can swim right off into the sunset. Right back into the warm waters of his home.
"Kotaro..." Ryuuichi breathes out. "Right, I need to get him a gift," he remembers. He breathes out loudly, feeling the new sensation in his lungs.
Ryuuichi hears the door creak and sees the human walkout. "Good, you're done." The pirate walks over and kneels in front of him. Suddenly, all the stories come rushing back to him.
"Humans want to cut us up into thin tiny slices..."
"We are merely an attraction..."
"They hunt us down for sport..."
"They tear us apart from our families."
"They are not to be trusted."
"I shouldn't have done this." Ryuuichi trembles, "I should have listened."
His eyes stung, his nose hurt, his ears rang.
"Jesus, don't cry." The human says. "Listen, I need you to tell me where you came from. Can you do that?"
"I-" Ryuuichi tried. His voice came out raspy and hoarse. Every word he attempted to force out caused his throat to burn.
"Ah, don't worry about it now." The human says. "We can talk in the morning." he puts out his hand. "I'm Kamitani Hayato. I own this ship."
Ryuuichi looks at his hand. He places a finger and draws circles on Hayato's palm. "It feels so cold..." Hayato flinches but does not pull away. He puts on a strange face, raising an eyebrow.
Ryuuichi cups both of Kamitani's hands into his own and places a kiss on his fingertips.
Hayato immediately yanks his hands away, unamused. It looks like he wants to retort rudely but holds back. "Are you hungry?"
Ryuuichi shakes his head.
"Okay." Hayato sighs. Kamitani leaves the room, closing the door louder than last time.
"He didn't even say goodbye." Ryuuichi shakes his head. "That doesn't matter. I have to focus on speaking."
The boy takes multiple breaths before he ends up coughing. "Okay, calm down. Take it slow." Ryu wonders why he isn't trying to run away. If he's found out, he may be killed. But he wouldn't let that happen. This new land, he must explore.
After taking in a satisfying breath, he lets out a sound. "My-" cough. "Ugh, I sound like a strangled goldfish."
"My- na-me." Ryuuichi produces noises one by one and practices for half an hour. Finally, he sounds somewhat understandable.
"My name is Kashima Ryuuichi."
"Finally."
