Maddie
I'm so drunk that I can hardly stand. The room seems to be spinning, and when Maya finally approaches my side to hand me a cup of water I chug it with no hesitation.
"You and Cam seemed to have gotten pretty close," she teases. "I wasn't far away. Just over in the next room."
Oh, Cam. I don't know what the hell happened between us earlier. The tension that was there almost seemed sexual. No, it couldn't have been. He wouldn't have gone and fucked Kelsey if that was the case. If he were into me, he wouldn't have gone to her.
I shake my head, wanting more than anything to crawl underneath my comforter back at home. "No. Nothing happened. I think I just want to go back to the house."
"You sure you've had enough?" she asks.
"I've had enough to last a year. What was I even thinking? I'm not that girl. I'll never be that girl." Kelsey immediately pops into my mind and the thought of what they both did probably minutes ago makes me sick. Why did I think that being someone I'm not would ever work?
"You literally are that girl. Right now." Maya shakes me by the shoulders and looks around the party. "Look at you! You look hot as hell, you're drunk, and you were dancing like nobody was watching. You certainly got the attention of Mark. Didn't you?"
Shrugging my shoulders, I nod in defeat. I don't want to seem desperate and tell her that I didn't get the attention of the one guy I wanted. The one guy that I shouldn't be pining for. The one guy who seems to drive me insane. The one guy who suddenly acted as if he cared about me again tonight.
"Let's go," Maya says and passes me another water bottle. "Drink the rest of this."
I follow her outside while I gulp down more of the water, and I see the Mustang that Mark is still sitting in—the engine revving.
"Change your mind?" he calls out to us.
Maya glances back at me to wait for my answer, and although I want to go home, Maya is right. Despite what happened with Cam, I do look hot tonight. I am that girl right now. Why waste it and go home early? My parents are away for the weekend. This is my only chance to live a night drunk and carefree.
Tossing the water bottle down onto the grass, I grab Maya's hand and drag her towards the Mustang.
"That's my girl," Maya claims proudly. "I knew you wouldn't wimp out."
"Maddie, come here!" Ethan shouts across the lawn, his eyes immediately following the direction I'm heading. "Absolutely not! What the actual fuck has gotten into you?"
My bad side becomes awakened, and I run over to the Mustang, dragging Maya close behind me, and we quickly get into the backseat of Mark's car. "Go!" I shout. We both burst into giggles as Ethan tries to run desperately toward us.
"Mark I'm going to kick your fucking ass on Monday!" he roars as the Mustang pulls away from the curb.
Mark lets out a laugh along with us as he takes a glance at me in the rearview mirror. "That's a chance I'm willing to take."
