Chapter 5 | underworlds new MVP

After waking up from the blissful dream, Zagreus took Hypnos back to the house and proceeded to tear everyone apart for being so cruel to his sleepy lover. The tirade of the angry prince reached the ears of everyone in the underworld.

His father, his mother, Nyx, Thanatos, the fury sisters, Charon, Dusa, Achilles, Patroclus even the bone hydra got an earful. And when he came into contact with the Olympians again they sure did get a yelling at. Usually yelling at an Olympian was a death sentence, but once Aphrodite realised he was doing it to defend his lover she was too moved by the act of love to let anyone hurt the prince.

And ever since the angry rants of Zagreus, Hypnos had been given a lot more slack than usual. He wasn't chewed out for falling asleep on the job anymore, as it wasn't something he could help. He was recognised for his hard work more often, the relationship with his family was on the mend and overall things were slowly but surely getting better.

He finally felt like he didn't have a million eyes on him breathing down his neck at all times. And best part? Every single time Zagreus emerged from the Styx after a death, he was greeted with a kiss. Of course the shades waiting in line would see and spread rumours throughout the underworld, but he didn't care.

"Hypnos, Lad"

The god of sleep was stirred from his nap by a good friend of Zagreus, Achilles.

"Hm-? Oh, hey" Hypnos yawned.

"You seem to be comfortable there" he said, gesturing to the new claw foot couch Hypnos hovered on.

"Oh yeah! Zagreus got the house contractor to make me somewhere to sleep while I work. Now if only I could get him to actually put a door on his room..."

"I figured it was the princes doing. I came to ask about him actually, he's been out for quite a while, have you seen him recently? Figured of all people you'd know" Achilles asked.

Hypnos looked over at the pool of Styx, seeing it completely still and empty. Now that Achilles mentioned it, Zag had been gone a while.

"Not recently... wonder where he is it's been a long time..." Hypnos replied.

"Hm... odd usually he's back by now. Even if he's on the surface again the Styx takes him back after a while"

Where ever Zagreus was, Hypnos knew he'd return with some wild death to tell of. Perhaps he was taking a detour battling some heroes down in Elysium. Or getting Hypnos that autograph he wanted...

"Well if you see him, please send him my way. I have some questions about an old friend of mine he's run into recently" Achilles asked.

"Will do!" Hypnos replied.

With that the brief conversation ended, and Achilles went back to his post. Hypnos knew who this 'old friend' was. Everyone knew of the story of Achilles and Patroclus, and everyone knew 'old friend' wasn't exactly the right phrase. More like 'lost lover'...

The more he thought about it, the more he wondered where his own lover had gone too. He didn't know exactly how long it'd been as time didn't really exist in the underworld, but it felt like a while and he was starting to miss him. As he checked in shades for what felt like hours he'd glance over at the Styx waiting for Zagreus to show up again.

Magera came through the Styx a while ago, so Zagreus has definitely got past her out of Tartarus at least.

He waited, and waited, and waited. And finally after what felt like a whole damn day... or two... or three? Again time isn't really a thing in the underworld, he was awoken from his cat nap by the sounds of the blood water of the Styx sloshing around. When he looked over, it was none other than Zagreus, dripping wet and shaking his hair off.

"Zag!" Hypnos smiled, dropping his scroll and floating over faster than the speed of light.

Before Zagreus could respond he was engulfed into a hug by sleep himself and almost knocked back into the Styx.

"Well hello to you too Hypnos" Zagreus snickered, placing a warm kiss on his lips.

"You've been out so much longer than usual, what in the name of Tartarus we're you doing? I was starting to miss you. Also Achilles wants to talk to you later" Hypnos rambled.

"Ok 1) I was smashing my fathers domain, looking for something. 2) I wasn't gone that long... I think and 3) I'll keep that in mind and go see Achilles later on then"

"Not gone that long? Even the others were asking where you went!"

Oh... oops maybe he was gone for quite a while. But he was particularly focused on looking for something, so he'd definitely lost track of time there's.

"Ah- maybe I was gone a while then. But I can explain myself. I was looking for something for you" Zagreus replied.

"For me?"

"For you, here. And I won't take 'no way I couldn't zag' for an answer"

Reaching into his satchel, Zagreus pulled out a glowing bottle of Ambrosia handing it to his sleepy lover.

"Wha- more ambrosia how do you keep getting this?! Zagreus I couldn't-" Hypnos began.

"I literally just said I won't be taking that for an answer remember. I figured after everything that happened you could use a little gift" Zagreus said.

Sighing happily, Hypnos took the bottle. He kept it under his cloak as these exchanges weren't exactly allowed down here.

"Thank you Zag. Not just for all the lavish gifts but... for everything recently... you really are a gem of the underworld..." Hypnos smiled, all lovesick and smiley.

"You're worth going to all the trouble for Hypnos, you deserve love and I'll happily give it too you" Zagreus replied.

Again making the sleepy god blush in flattery, Hypnos' cold skin went warm and tinged blue.

"Is that an I love you?" Hypnos asked.

"Yes, it's an I love you" Zagreus smiled.

"... I love you too"

The prince placed a gentle kiss on Hypnos' lips. Each time they touched Zagreus would get a little drowsy as a side effect of being so close to sleep himself. But he liked the drowsiness when it was coming from Hypnos. It was like a reminder that even in his dreams, he could spoil the one he loved.

A/n: hey first hades story is done! Only a short story this time around, maybe one day I'll make a full one. As much as I love thanzag, I think zagnos deserves more recognition. Hypnos in general deserves more recognition he's hades best boy. I haven't seen much hades game fic on wattpad so here's my contribution. This was meant to be a side project but I got pretty carried away with writing it all in like two days.
