Hello Everyone!

THANK YOU FOR READING "UNDER THE SEA"!

Three months ago, I took a trip across The Atlantic, and if anyone has ever done so, then you know those long trips are never easy to get through. The seats get uncomfortable; you get bored with watching back-to-back movies, or you finish the two vacation books you had packed for the trip too quickly. For me, it was a combination of all three as I sat on the flight back home with seven hours to go and nothing to do. Randomly scrolling through my notes, I found an old blurb that I had written years ago about a little mermaid retelling that re-sparked my interest in the prospect.

In the seven hours that remained, I wrote the first nineteen chapters of "Under The Sea" and it felt as if the seven hours became seven minutes. BY the time we were exiting the plane, my thoughts were ablaze with the possibilities of where the story could go, and I had become so invested in the characters that even I found myself unsure of how their story would unfold. It felt magical after so long without having had the time or motivation to get something down. As an author, I have a backlog of blurbs, notes, and ideas that I've written and forgotten in the abyss of responsibilities. Yet, that this story was the one that broke through the distractions delights me.

Crafting the world, the characters, and exploring the deep and intimate relationship between Samuel and Axel inspired me beyond words. These characters became so real that I struggled to determine what happened next because I overthinked over how they would react in the situation. I have found that when your characters surprise yourself, there is no telling how others will interpret and react to their story. I hope that everyone who has finished reading their story has connected to these characters in the same way that I have.

"Under The Sea" has inspired me to continue this path of fairytale retellings and I have envisioned a full slate of stories that are to come. I am grateful that you have taken the time to read the story and would love to hear from all of you. If you would like to keep updated with future stories and announcements, please follow me and connect, as I am always open to receiving feedback. If you are not interested in following, then I want to once again thank you for reading and I hope I meet you once again through future stories.

Until then, I must leave you here as I am late to meet Finn for shelling 🐚!

See you in the next story,

Lance Alvarez, author of "Under The Sea"
