"Well look who it is! If it isn't the boy saviour!"
Ekko was first introduced to us in act 1 along with Jinx and Vi. Ekko was only a child when he was first introduced, his age being akin to Jinx, and just like Jinx, he too looked towards Vi in terms of leadership and support. So when Vi disappeard and was assumed to be dead, he felt as if he were obligated to take her place. He loved Vi, she was his mentor, his idol, and she made a lasting impression on him. So much so that he modeled and molded himself after her. From the way he walked and talked, to constantly putting on a brave face, because just as he once looked towards Vi for guidance, hundreds of people of the undercity were now doing the same to him.
I love how empathetic Ekko is. When he saw how the aftermath of Vander's death affected the undercity, he took it upon himself to act at a time when no one else would. He had lost so much, and still had much more to lose; yet he still did what was necessary for the survival of others, and so he used what he had, did what he had to do. He didn't have to. He could've waited for someone else to step up, for someone else to become the cliche sacrificial hero to this story. Yet he took matters into his own hands. He saw the people suffering, squirming under Silco's boot while Piltover refused to intervene, and he acted. Not because he wanted to be the hero, but because he had to be. Being a child born from war, a child of trauma, he knew all too well the struggle the people were facing. And knowing that him and Heimerdinger are now acquinted with each other, I think it would be so beautiful for such an empathetic person like Ekko, to teach such an apathetic person like Heimindinger.
"It's not enough to give people what they need to survive, you have to give them what they need to live."
