Videotape- Radiohead

"I'm home." ... No reply. Y/n set her bag on the counter and started making her way over to the couch where her uncle usually sat.

Her and her uncle, the only family she had, settled into a small apartment in Tokyo, Japan a few months ago. She went to a school nearby and worked a part-time job to keep up with rent. It wasn't much, but after moving from motel to motel, to her it was everything she'd ever dreamed of.

Her uncle was the only person in her life who'd never abandoned her. He was only a few years older than Y/n, since he had been born pretty late by her father's parents.

He was everything to Y/n. Well, he was all she had.

She wore a confused expression when she saw that he was not there. She opened the door to the bedroom to see something she never would have expected. Him sprawled across the floor, unconscious, and blood pooling around his lifeless body.

Y/n dropped to her knees, not making a sound. Her breath hitched and her lip quivered as tears pooled in her eyes.

"What. the hell. Happened." She stared down at him, her jaw slightly falling open, not believing the sight she was seeing.

The man she'd looked up to since she was a young child, the man she'd seen as an invincible hero, at his weakest point. Unbelievable.

She came to her senses and abruptly stood up searching the floor, trying to find an answer to what had happened. She noticed the window of the bedroom slightly cracked open and stumbled over to it.

The wind from the cold night blew the curtains open, she stuck her head out the window desperately searching for a culprit.

Soon she noticed a group of men in matching jackets, slyly running through an alleyway nearby. One carrying a bloodied knife.

She clenched her teeth and smashed her fist to the side, shattering the window. If she could. she'd have jumped out of the window already, chasing after them, taking out all of her emotions on them. Taking revenge on them, revenge for making her all alone once again. Revenge was her only reaction in situations like these.

That's just how she functioned.

Finally, Y/n slowly trudged over to her uncle's body. She kneeled down, turning his face toward hers.

Seeing his dull eyes made her heart sink.

She held him in her arms, the tears started falling, she hugged him closer to her.

"You too, huh.." She chuckled, her voice breaking.

"I can't ever just have this one thing. Everyone I ever have present in my life ends up disappearing." She dug her nails into the sides of his arms. Stuffing her tear stained face into the crook of his shoulder.

"Where did I go wrong." She sat in silence a few moments more, and finally got up, dropping her uncle's body.

Eventually, she heard the sirens, and blue and red lights flashing through the window of the apartment.

She watched from the front step of the apartment complex, as her uncle was carried away in an ambulance.

She'd already known there was no saving him. He was really gone for good.

It still hadn't fully sunken in, that she was truly all alone now.

This was nothing new to her. Abandonment, loneliness.

Being just a 14 year old girl, no parents, no place to call her home.

She looked back on all she and her uncle had gone through together, now knowing she'd have to go through everything here on out, alone.
