BEYOND THE ONE (SAMLY)

Prologue

Sam's POV

"..'Beyond one' means very difficult for someone to comprehend or do. In the business world, beyond one's means is to spend more money than you can afford, which basically describes the habits of a person who is not financially literate. And we don't want that. Anyone who knows the value of money wouldn't even dare. Another one is beyond one's control.  These are things that have happened that we cannot change or influence like the events that happened in the past or will happen in the future. You see, I am telling you these for you to take note that just like in business life has certain disciplines that you should be aware of, limits that we should acknowledge to stop us from destroying not just the things we built but the good version that we made ourselves into.."

Andito ngayon ako sa school theater giving university students a speech that could potentially help them especially in terms of undecided future. As an entrepreneur I would like to inspire them to be better at the things they're into.

Alyssa's POV

"..and then there's beyond the one." Sabi ko.

"Beyond the one?." Takang tanong ng patient ko for today na si Madie.

"Yes, beyond the one. Beyond 'the one'. You see, there's a time in our lives where we thought that something or someone is the one. That they are the best thing that could ever happen to us in a lifetime. But then out of nowhere, in a time we least expect, something or someone suddenly comes that's even way way better.."

"Better than Mark?."

"No. Better than the life you had when you were with him. The point is that we come to the realization that we have been redirected." Sabi ko.

Sam's POV

"That's all. Any questions?." Sabi ko.

There's a girl in the crowd who raised her hand.

"Yes, you. What is your question?."

"I would like to know what's beyond success. I mean you've probably reached most of your goals, so what's next?."

"Depends on how you define success."

"You are a CEO of a big company, you have a lot of money, you are famous and people love you. So, you must be successful."

"What if I tell you that I don't consider myself successful?."

"Why not?."

"That's a good question. I don't know either."

9PM.

Naabutan ko sa harap ng unit ko ang fiance kong si Alfonso.

"Hey, what are you doing here?. What's with the flowers and gifts?. Birthday ko ba?." Sabi ko sabay beso rito.

"It's our fifth anniversary." Walang emosyong sabi nito sakin.

"R-right, sorry. I-I just--"

"I already got enough of your excuses. You even missed your appointment with the wedding designer. 7 times Sam. Do you even want this wedding to happen?."

"W-what do you mean?. Of course I do. I-it's just that I got--"

"Really busy with the family business. I know. Everybody knows. You know what, that's it. I'm done. Let's stop this nonsense."

"W-wha--babe--"

"Let's break up."

"P-please--babe don't, please don't leave. I promise--"

"Don't touch me. Tapos na tayo. Now go marry your job." Sabi nito sabay tulak sakin palayo at tuluyan nang umalis.

KINABUKASAN

Habang papunta nako sa office para magsubmit ng resignation letter ko sa board ay sumabay narin sakin ang younger brother kong si KD who has an appointment with his Psychiatrist. He's helping him with his anxiety and depression. I never really met him tho, dahil nga sa sobrang busy ko sa business. Pero nakacasual lang ako ngayon since I'm not going there for work.

"What?! You're resigning?! Are you out of your mind Ate?. Di ba parang nabigla ka lang--" Sabi ni KD.

"My decision is final KD, I'm resigning. If this is what it takes to be with him again then so be it."

"Para lang sa isang lalaki?. You got to be kidding me."

"KD, Fon is not just some guy, okay?. He's the one."

"Naku, don't even try na sabihin yan kay Dad kung ayaw mong madisown ng wala sa oras."

"Then let him. Buong buhay akong naging sunod sunuran sa kanya, pano naman yung gusto ko?. Wala na ba akong karapatang maging masaya?. Saka matagal tagal ko na rin tong pinag-isipan."

"I-I don't know. Alam mo naman yun si Dad pag nagalit--"

"He'll understand someday."

We're here.

"Wait, Ate papasok ka?." Takang tanong ni KD.

"Why not?. Besides, I wanna know how you're going."

"Fine. Basta sa labas ka lang ng room."

Kaya ayun nasa labas nga lang ako ng room, naririnig ko parin naman ang pinag-uusapan nila sa loob. Saka may small glass window rin kung saan makikita ko parin sila nung lalaking doktor. Bumalik na muna ako sa may bench para maghintay kasi nangangalay narin ako sa pagsilip nang may isang babaeng Psychiatrist na dumaan.

Lumabas sya dun sa katabing room na may nakalagay na Dra. Alyssa Valdez-Ravena. Hmm she's married.

Masaya siyang binati ng mga nurses, doctors and even patients dito sa hospital.

Napadaan rin dito yung mga nurses at di naman sa pagiging chismosa ah, narinig ko lang talaga yung pinag-uusapan nila.

"Totoo kayang baog si Doc Ly?." Sabi nung babaeng nurse.

"Oo nga, feel ko rin. I mean 2 years na sila ni Sir Kief pero wala parin silang anak." Sabi nung nurse na gay.

"Baka naman si Sir Kief yung baog." Sabi nung nurse na lalaki.

"Kawawa naman si Doc Ly kung ganun. Pero feel ko lang anlamig na nila ngayon sa isa't isa unlike dati no?. As in hatid sundo talaga, ngayon we barely even see them together." Sabi nung babaeng nurse.

May lumapit namang Doctor sabay sabi sa kanilang,

"Mamaya na ang chismis, trabaho muna." At ayun they parted ways.

15 mins later. Hindi parin lumalabas si KD so I decided na pumunta muna sa rooftop para makalanghap ng sariwang hangin.

Nasa bandang edge ako nang biglang nagslip yung engagement ring ko, medyo maluwag kasi nung binigay ni Fon. Alangan naman sabihin kong palitan eh ang mahal mahal nun.

"What the heck?! Are you trying to kill yourself?!." Galit na sabi nito sakin.
