Tell me the Truth

Chapter 1

~ Confusion ~

Beep. Beep. Beep.

The constant sound was causing an instant headache as Isabelle slowly awakened to the sharp scent of antiseptic. Her entire body felt like a truck had run her over, her muscles were sore and her skin felt like it was burning. Blinking her heavy eyelids open, she immediately shut them closed as bright white light hit her sensitive cornea. Disorientated, Isabelle tried to open her eyes a second time, forcing them to look around as tears pricked behind her eyelids. Where was she? Confused, she tried to sit up, but her body was too weak and tired to move a limb.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

She couldn't seem to remember how she fell asleep. When a pretty dark-haired woman wearing a nurse outfit walked into the room, Isabelle's eyes widened and she openly gaped. Reality started to set in. The hospital? She was in the hospital? How? Why? Trying to remember what happened to her, the headache intensified and the room started to spin. Isabelle felt dizzy as hell. Her stomach churned as she desperately tried to remember. Her mind came up blank. Dammit.

"Oh, good, I see you're finally awake, Mrs. Eastwood. I'll immediately call your husband and let him know you're back in the land of the living," the woman smiled kindly. "Doctor Porter will arrive shortly to run some tests and make sure you're recovering well."

The woman had no idea Isabelle didn't know what she's talking about, nor did she notice Isabelle's entire body tensed up at the mention of a husband. As far as Isabelle knew, she was still single and finishing her last year of college before she could start working at her father's law firm. The nurse must've mixed up the information. She didn't have a boyfriend, let alone a husband!

Of course, as most young females, she'd been on her fair share of dates, but no one ever spiked Isabelle's interest. The boys were just that...boys. Isabelle didn't want to waste time on someone that wouldn't be able to fit her standards. She wanted a real man in her life, not a boy, someone that was in it for the long run. She'd seen far too often how her girlfriends had been used and abused by foolish boys that only thought with their cocks.

Sighing, Isabelle took another quick look around the room and tried to remember how she got there. The last thing she remembered was... everything was vague. She couldn't seem to come up with a specific memory. Ugh. Her head throbbed as she unsuccessfully tried to remember something, anything.

Before Isabelle could attempt trying to sit up a second time, a fairly handsome doctor walked into the room, a content smile across his lips. "Mrs. Eastwood, it's good to finally see you opening your eyes," the man said, halting next to her hospital bed. Frowning, Isabelle stared at the man in confusion. That's the second time someone called her 'Mrs. Eastwood' now.

"I'm pretty sure you must be mistaken. My name is Isabelle Montgomery, not Eastwood," she protested, giving the doctor a confused look. What kind of hospital did her parents bring her to? If the medical staff couldn't even get their patient's name and information right!

The doctor's smile vanished and his lips twisted into a thin line as he shook his head. "I was afraid this might happen," he mumbled, sounding torn. "I'm afraid you were in a car accident two months ago, Isabelle. After your car spun out of control, it started skidding and hit a tree. Due to severe brain damage, we had to put you into an induced coma to reduce the brain swelling. We've been waiting for you to wake up all this time. My team feared you might never open your eyes again, but I'm glad you proved us wrong," the man explained, compassion shining in his charcoal eyes.
