Chapter 1
I sped through the woods, the darkness was all over, couldn't see a thing. I ran, not knowing where I would end up. I had to keep my feet moving, no matter how tired I was.
Something was after me, not sure what it was although. I had a feeling it was one of those vampire creatures. He was moving at super speed, dodging every tree and any other obstacle that came at him. I had only caught a little glimpse of him, his eyes a goldish color, and his fangs sharp, deadly even.
To tell you the truth, he was beautiful. I couldn't believe a creature like him could be so magnificent. The way his muscles flexed with every single movement left me in awe. I couldn't help but look back at him with every chance that I got.
Although, I knew I had to get away. This thing was trying to kill me for goodness sake!
I ran faster and faster, finally approaching a little cottage. The cottage was a tan color, with flowers and bushes surrounding it. There was a little path that led to the big, red door. I walked up the path, knocked on the door twice, & was happily greeted by Mrs. Walsh.
Marie Walsh was an older lady, with bright white hair and blue eyes. Wrinkles cascaded down her face, leaving her skin droopy. She had bags under her eyes, letting you know that she hasn't slept.
When Marie was younger, she was very happy, she had a great family, and a loving husband. When her baby had just turned 3, her home caught on fire, killing everyone in it. Marie was out for the day, and she hadn't received the news until she got back home. She was devastated, and she didn't leave her new home for ages. I felt bad for the woman, even though I didn't know her back then.
"Can I help you, dear?" She muttered. I could barely hear her.
"Please, help me! Someone's after me!" I yelled, trying to push her aside to let me in. "Please! Madam Walsh, something's trying to kill me!"
She shook her head, "I'm sorry." She shut the door, although I could still hear her behind the door. "I can't help you!"
"Why?! Please! Let me in!"
"Miss Anastasia, I simply cannot help you. You're on your own. Whatever is after you, must catch you, because they want you. Nothing will stop them unless they have you."
Her words spoke the truth. I waited for the mysterious creature to approach, but nothing happened. I decided it was time to head back home, so that's what I did.
I walked for a little, but I soon realized I was lost. I sunk down onto the wet ground, hoping someone would find me.
I drifted off to a peaceful sleep, but I knew whatever was after was out there somewhere. I just don't know where.
I'm only 15, something like this shouldn't be happening to me. Was this person trying to murder me like they had done to my brother Allen? The township had said it was murder, but I thought otherwise. It couldn't have been murder. His blood had been completely drained, and there was no evidence of any kind of struggle. He was put into the hospital to be examined, when he had 'escaped'. I still like to think my brother is out there somewhere. I have no idea where he would be or what he would be doing.
Maybe Allen was after me. Maybe he was trying to send me some type of message.
I don't know. I have to get out of here, but I don't know the way out.
When I woke back up, I wasn't in the woods. I was in someone's house, and it wasn't mine.
I jolted up when I heard the sounds of voices. It was dark, no windows to let the sun shine in. Where was I?
A man walked in. He had a scruffy beard, and he looked to be really tired. "Ah, you're awake." He said, sitting down on the coach by the wall. "You weren't supposed to wake for another 2 hours."
"Where am I?" I asked quietly, hoping he wouldn't hurt me.
His eyes widened, "you don't recognize this place, Anastasia? You should. I had brought you to my castle when I found you wondering around. Remember? When your parents died?"
"Randall?" I asked. Randall was an old friend of my parents. The only question I had was, why am I locked up here?
He nodded, "yes! You remember!"
In walked another guy. He had golden eyes, just like the guy that was chasing me earlier. I scooted closer to the wall, trying to get away from him. He came closer to me, "whats wrong? I'm not gonna hurt you." He smiled, his teeth showing, no fangs. "I'm Lucas. Randy's son." He smiled again, this time, I wasn't so scared. Even though, I kinda knew what he was. I swear, it was the same person I had saw in the woods. His hair was wind blown. I knew he had been running. He didn't bother to fix it at all. I just stared at him in amazement. He could someone so beautiful, be so deadly?
Lucas walked towards me. I could feel his hot breath escaping from his lips. He bent down beside me, "I didn't mean to frighten you in the woods, madam. I noticed you walking the street, and around the corner I saw someone start walking towards you. It was a vampire. Not the good kind either. You must be careful."
"Why was he chasing me? What did I do?"
He looked to his father. He tried to say something, but the words got caught in his throat. He just shook his head.
Randall sat down, "I'll explain later. Lucas, show her around. Make her comfortable."
Lucas was showing me around the house. It all looked the same, dark and every piece of furniture had that Victorian style theme. I had to admit though, it was beautiful.
"This is my room," he stepped aside, making sure I got a good look at his room.
It was a dark blue color, and again, the same Victorian style furniture. There wasn't much to see in here, a bunch of books stacked neatly in a bookshelf near the corner. A desk by the window that was covered up for some reason.
"Its.. nice." I hesitated, not exactly sure what I should say. It was nice, but not much to look at.
He chuckled, his eyes dancing in the sunlight that peeked through the windows. "I know it's not much." He shuffled over to the bed, patting the space next to him, offering me a seat. I gladly took that seat, adjusting myself on the bed. The clothing I had been wearing earlier had been replaced with an undergarment, like the ones that I would wear underneath my dresses. This wasn't mine though. Mine are usually rather lacy. "What happened to my dress I was wearing?"
"Father didn't want you to get it dirty, so he had Madeline put this on you." He explained. The way he spoke left me speechless. I had no idea what I should say to him.
"Oh, well, uh, thank you."
He smiled again, this time I caught a slight glimpse of what looked like very sharp teeth. He knew I had seen them, he saw my reaction. He quickly shut his mouth, and turned around. I knew what he was. I just didn't want to accept it. It can't be true...

3 years passed. It was now 1845, and I was 18. Or, turning 18 at least. I had figured out what Lucas actually was, we had a 'serious conversation', as he liked to call it. It wasn't really that serious, it had just scared me a little to think he was a 'killer.' He wasn't really, it was his older sister that normally would do all the killings. His sister, Annessa, she looked just like him, it was kind of crazy to be honest.
Although, she was beautiful, she had a bad attitude.
I had been staying with Lucas and his father the past three years. Before that, I had been staying with my aunt and four cousins in town. Randall's house is right on the edge of town, almost outside of the city limits. The house was still the same as it had been when I first got here. Same furniture and everything.
I slept in Lucas's room most of the time, other times when I couldn't sleep, I would go downstairs. The house always seemed to be so dark. I knew the reason they kept it dark. Vampires can't go out in the sun. Lucas can though. When he was a new vampire, his mother, who happened to be a witch, cast a spell on him so he could go out in the day. He also has a special piece of jewelry that he wears all the time to protect him.
Lucas explained to me how he was turned. His father turned him when he turned 19. Lucas had a very rare disease when he was younger, the doctors always said he wouldn't make it past 25. He was getting worse and worse each year. His father didn't want him to suffer anymore, so he turned him. That was in 1712. Lucas is 133 years old.
The thought of him being that much older than me, actually bothered me for a bit. I quickly got over that. I knew I had to if I wanted to be with him.
"Madeline, could you undo the corset?" I asked her politely.
"Yes, Miss Anastasia." She smiled, looking at me in the mirror. Madeline was a pretty little thing. She had darker skin than me, but she was beautiful. She had dark brown eyes, and dark black hair that she always wore up in a neat bun. I would never understand why she wore the same dress everyday though.
I stepped out of the dress leaving it lay on the floor. I would pick it up later, but right now, I gotta change into something a bit more formal. The town is having a celebration for it's 30th anniversary, you have to dress nice.
I slipped on my dark purple corset dress. The top half was a bright purple, and the bottom half was a darker purple. The bodice had ruffles going up the middle, with a little bow off to the side. I slid on my shoes, adjusted my hair and was ready to go.
I descended down the large staircase, Lucas greeted me at the bottom. Lucas was wearing a puffy white shirt with black pants. He looked rather handsome.
"You look astonishing." He eyed me up and down, making sure he covered every inch of my body.
"Thank you." I blushed, I could feel the blood rushing to my face as he linked his arm with mine. He guided me out of his house into the darkness. The moon was the only light that we had.
The horse and buggy was waiting at the end of the path, he helped me up inside and he too climbed up. And we were off to the celebration.
The home it was being held at was at the center of town, so it was a little ways away. But once we got there, the place looked amazing. Decorations filled the lawn. It was a beautiful home.
We got out of the buggy, Lucas helped me out again. What a gentleman!
Lucas had his hair slicked back, his golden eyes danced as he watched my every move. I couldn't help but smile at the way he looked at me. He was truly a magnificent creature. And every day that I was with him, I fell deeper and deeper in love with him. I knew he felt the same, so why hasn't he said anything?
