Gavriel - One year before the events of Chapter 1. Mallory goes by Grace in this. Seriously, she has a new name every infodump!
The sun beat down on their backs as it always did while they were training, and thus Gavriel was used to it. He didn't complain, only kept fighting against Fenrys, who seemed to have an utterly different mentality when it came to the fair torch that gave them light.
"Why," Fenrys said as their practice sword clashed, "must we always have the sun? She is always there, Gavriel, and goddamnit it's annoying. I swear, I'm going to get a sunburn soon if she does not decide to leave."
Lorcan rolled his eyes, "Stop complaining Moonbeam and focus on not getting your ass kicked."
"As if any of you could beat me."
Gavriel took this as a challenge and tripped the male to the ground, standing above him and placing the sword against his neck. He raised an eyebrow, "What do you have to say for yourself, Fenrys?"
"That you're an irritating bastard," Fenrys replied. Gavriel helped him up.
"Careful with your insults Moonbeam, or he might not fix up your pretty face as well the next time you get injured in battle," said Vaughan. Rowan laughed as he fought against Lorcan, a rare sound in Doranelle.
"Gods, if Vaughan insulting me is the only thing that will get Whitethorn to laugh then it is truly a bleak day for us all," Fenrys said, feigning panic.
"It's a bleak day for us all, either way, brother," muttered Connall, "Come on, let's go and meet Remelle and company, get it over with."
"Always so positive. Who knows, perhaps they'll bring a pretty fae maiden with them, for you to-" Rowan clamped a hand over Fenrys' mouth before he could finish.
"Be very careful."
Fenrys simply slapped the hand away and elbowed Rowan in the gut. Gavriel rolled his eyes and stepped between them, so done with life and their constant fights that he was tempted to just knock them both out.
"Are you fighting again, Moonbeam, Rowan?" Remelle's voice was, for once, welcome. Gavriel was thankful for her, for once in his long life, and turned around, giving her a beaming smile.
"Remelle!" He said, grinning.
The only reason he wasn't retreating into his shell (also known as his room) was because she, Remelle, gave Fenrys and Rowan a common enemy. And that really was a wonderful thing.
"Gavriel," she replied, furrowing her brows, "hello."
He could tell she was confused by his attitude towards her. "Hello," he said.
Fenrys stepped up so that he was beside him, Rowan following close in tow. Lorcan, Vaughan and Connall stayed further back, placing their weapons away. "Why are you here, if I may ask, Remelle?"
Remelle narrowed her eyes at them all. "You're being polite," she stated, "That's new."
"You're not acting like a total-"This time Gavriel was the one to clamp a hand over Fenrys' mouth, which he promptly bit.
She shook her head, exasperated. "I'll just get to the point, okay? One of my prisoners has escaped - she goes by the name of Grace Adenan - and I need you to get her back, understood? She's powerful, but young and not even full-blooded, so you ought to be able to handle her."
"Has Maeve approved this?" Asked Vaughan, stepping forward. Remelle nodded.
"Maeve would like her back too. It was on transport to her castle that the girl escaped."
Gavriel nodded, "Understood."
"Good, leave as soon as you can, she can't get too far away, lest she make her way to Adarlan. We can't pursue her there, you see, because of your-"
"We know of Adarlan's curse," Fenrys interrupted.
"Good," she gave them all a malicious smile, "Oh, and Rowan, meet me in the dining room at 7:00."
Gavriel could have sworn he heard the male groan.
