“See you soon princesita”

•••

Maya awoke to another strange dream, why do these get sadder every time I sleep?
She got out of bed, feeling the cold imprint from last night’s tears.
These have got to stop.

“¡MAYA! ¡DESPIERTA, OR YOU’LL BE LATE FOR SCHOOL!!” Maya’s mother yelled, laughter could be heard from downstairs, the fresh smell of eggs & papitas with tortillas got Maya’s stomach growling. She breathed in the wondrous smell of breakfast, finally waking up and jumping out of bed to get dressed.

"OKAY MAMA I'LL BE RIGHT THERE- OOF" she fell as she put her socks on. Moving towards the mirror she got a good look of herself. White & Red uniform, red shawl, and a gold eagle emblem adorned her short stature. She went to the Great Teca School, Home of the Golden Eagles and the best school in the country. Her parents were the great principals of Teca, which was convenient for her since she got into a lot of fights, though that didn’t totally save her from trouble.

Maya walked to the bathroom, cleaning up and changing the bandages from her latest fight. She took a good look at herself in the mirror, examining the cuts and scars from previous battles. She smiled, she loved the way it made her look. “Mrrow” Maya looked over to the toilet seat, a black and blonde calico cat. She petted the cat and smiled,

“Buenos Días Chiapa”

“Mrrow :)”

“Come on, let's go get something to eat.” Maya scooped Chiapa up and slid down the stairs to greet her familia.

“Buenos Dias everyone!" She yawned, placing Chiapa by his bowl and filling it with wet cat food. Águila and Balam were bickering while her father stuffed his face with more eggs and papitas. She grabbed a plate and sat down, eating quickly, Chiapa did the same.

“Maya, I need you to pick up the twins after school and watch them. So make sure to come home.” Her mother spoke as she gathered the last of her things needed for work.

“Ay Mama, I already have plans tonight! I told Picchu and Chimi that I’d go watch their game tonight. Plus I already take them to school, why must I pick them up too.” Maya slumped into her seat, she glanced over to her siblings and father, who were currently fighting over the last tortilla.

“Maya, As the oldest, I need you to take care of your younger siblings for me while your Father and I work. Just take them to the game with you. I'm sure Picchu and Chimi would enjoy seeing their favorite pair of twins.” Maya’s mom kissed the twins' cheeks, placing down another plate of tortillas, the three smiled.

“Plus your hermanos did it for you when you were little. I'm sure they'd be proud to see how much you've grown up.” she smiled. Reina, Maya’s mother, always knew how to get her to cave.

Maya sighed, nodding her head in agreement as she put her plate in the sink and grabbed her bag. Signaling her siblings that it was time to go, the twins nodded, finishing the rest of their food. Getting their things and kissing Chiapa and their parents goodbye.

“Adiós Niños! Have a good day at school!” Enrico, their father, called out as Reina fixed his tie.

The three walked out and were immediately greeted by Chimi and Araña. The kids greeted each other, walking in front while the teens talked.

“Chiiimiiiiii. Did you do the homework Mr. Vucub gave us? I didn’t have enough time thanks to last night's student body meeting.” Maya whined, hunching over and being dramatic. Chimi chuckled, tying her hair back into a bun as she rolled her eyes at her friend.

“You know, for someone who’s the student body president, you don’t really do a good job keeping up the image.” Chimi giggled. Maya stuck her tongue out, rolling her eyes and laughing. The girls and kids laughed as they made their way to the elementary school.

On the other side of the road, a girl adorned with gold jewelry and face markings had her arm wrapped around a boy with silver hair. The two walked in the shade, though, it didn't do much thanks to their black uniforms. The girl held on tight, both for touch and security as the busy streets were easy to be separated in.

"I still can’t believe we share buildings with that stupid Teca Academy. I aH-!" The girl exclaimed, looking at the person who had the audacity to bump into her, The boy glanced over as well, only to find a short girl in a white and red Teca uniform looking over at him, surprised. His eyes widened as he saw her, out of attraction or sun, he was unsure but all he knew was that she… looked familiar.

"I am so so sorry! I didn't mean to- ÁGUILA! COME BACK HERE! Chimi can you get,- I am so sorrY- OH!-." The girl quickly left, running after two kids with a girl as pale as snow and another child.

The couple looked at each other in confusion, giving the look of what the hell just happened? the girl scoffed, "Zatz, It's best that we go now, you know how Mr. Chivo gets when we're late." "Okay Acat", he said, letting his girlfriend drag him towards their school.
