binging reality shows at night had not been your best idea. you sighed, glancing at your phone, groaning as you saw how late it already had become. half of the day was already gone and you still had hundreds of pages to read for one of your classes - it could be an idea to stop procrastinating, then you wouldn't have situations like this where you had a couple of hours to read a week's worth of work.
coffee, you thought, coffee was going to be your savior through the hours of reading you had ahead of you. jaemin would probably be glad if you decided to spend the whole day in your room. as you stepped into the living room, you wished you had stayed inside your own room, because then maybe you had been lucky enough to miss seeing her. goddamn jieun.
you knew jaemin was mad at you, but the least he could've done was shoot you a small text so you at least could look a bit decent. but maybe it was his way of getting revenge - you never texted him about jeno either. jaemin glanced at you as you walked past them, but you tried to keep your own eyes away from them, not wanting to even spare them a glance when walking past them.
jieun let out a small laugh as you left the kitchen, a cup of coffee in your hand, and you raised your eyebrows at her, stopping in front of her as she turned around to look at you, obviously wanting to tell you something. then she told you the obvious, "you're up late."
you let a small chuckle leave you, and you leaned forward a bit, feeling good by the way she cowered slightly, sinking into her seat. with a low voice you told her, "maybe if i was up a bit later i would have been lucky enough to miss seeing you."
it made pride swell up in you as you stood up to your full height, watching as realization hit and your words registered in her head. her jaw tensed up, and she puffed out some air about to say something but jaemin beat her to it, "y/n i swear-" you cut him off, wiggling the fingers on your free hand at them before leaving them alone, "have fun little lovebirds, you two would be great together."
ignoring the way your chest churned at your own words you closed the door to your room. sitting down by your desk you opened your book to start reading your homework, hopefully the activity distracting you for as long as jieun was at your place. it felt uncomfortable even in your own room, nothing felt right.
yesterday had been a bad day, the cereal, coffee and jeno fights had all been incredibly stupid. it wasnt working, it wasn't working trying to hate him. it didn't stop your heart from hurting just the tiniest bit whenever you saw him and he scoffed or looked away from you. did you really miss him? the stupid fights and his stupid flirting. lifting your hand to your hair you ruffled it, it wasn't your place to feel like this.
you weren't sure if you had completely destroyed everything that you and jaemin had built up over the time you'd lived together, you hoped not. you weren't sure if you were going to need to look for a new roommate, yet again, all because of some girl drama. but it shouldn't matter, you weren't friends - or maybe you were, yes you were. still, you shouldn't feel as hurt as you did, because you were never more than friends, you had never been on the way to be more than friends.
blinking, you looked at the sentence you had just read. how many times had you read it? you had read the sentence at least five times without actually reading it. you had entered a dangerous cycle of thoughts. thinking too much about jaemin would give you a headache, you concluded, leaning over to grab you cup of coffee only to realize it was empty.
oh, goddammit.
jieun looked at you, her eyes rolling as you tried to walk past her, her leg stretching out in front of you. fortunately you saw it before you tripped over her leg, and you looked at her, an eyebrow raised, and her face flushed as the attempt to trip you failed. she stood up, her voice a lot lower than usual as she spoke to you, "he really hates you, you know? he only keeps you around because he needs a place to stay. everyone in class thinks he's also just keeping up with you because maybe he'd get an easy fuck out of you. people call you a slut, you know?"
you glanced over at where jaemin had been sitting earlier, nodding slightly as his seat was empty - that was why she was saying those things now. taking a small step back from her you took a deep breath before deciding to defend yourself, "i'm not screwing that asshole, why are you so pressed? is it because he doesn't wanna screw you because he actually has standards?"
jieun scoffed, crossing her arms, "standards that you are nowhere near. ever wondered why jeno decided to move out? of course it wasn't because he didn't have a choice, he couldn't bear to be around you anymore."
ouch.
even though you knew that wasn't the truth, the thought of it being true still stung. you shook your head at her, doing your best to not break down as she started jabbing at your weak spot.
"don't run your mouth on stuff you know nothing about."
jieun gave you a small smile, her head tilting to the side as she continued, "but wasn't it very sudden and very quickly he had to move? and wasn't he also the one who helped you find a roommate so he could move out faster."
what she said was true. the news about him leaving were sudden, and he was the one who helped you find a roommate, but you knew jeno was better than that. you replied, "that's not how it happened, but nice try."
jieun snapped back almost immediately, "nice trying to act all tough when it on reality is tearing you up inside that your one and only true friend actually hates your guts because you're unlikable and annoying."
jieun grinned as she saw your lips press together, and you looked away, hating the fact that she managed to pick just the right words to hurt you as much as possible. the tears that were starting to sting in your eyes were the last thing you wanted her to see. it was as if the floor you were standing on got softer, making you sink into it. you felt heavier, you felt as if you called for help no one would hold out their hand.
there was a small ringing in your ears, but her condescending laugh was still clear in your ears, "oh did i strike a nerve? look at you. you're so pathetic. jaemin will leave you soon as well."
that was it, she got you. without another word you turned around, hurriedly leaving her behind, not even apologizing when you walk directly into jaemin. you weren't really listening as jaemin said something to you. you tried to walk past him again and into your room, but he grabbed your arm, rather harshly. when you got eye contact with the male, a tear left your eye, followed by a handful more. his face was blurry.
