Blood In The Water

Prologue ~ Clary

The mist surrounds us. Blood red shadows crawling up the edges of my vision. Spinning, as I try to find them.

Suddenly, my sword strikes its target, earning me a rewarding screech. The Swirling tendrils of mist keep me from knowing where the rest of them are, or how many there are. I cant even see Jade. 

Please be safe, i cant lose you before i have you.  

Suddenly I'm struck, screeching. All of my energy is instantly put to staying on my feet. My back exploding in a wildfire of pain. 

I hear Jade scream something to me though it all blends together, my ears cutting out like a radio station searching for a signal. All I can hear is my heart pounding in my chest and my breath, coming in short, quick gasps. 

My vision tints red and blurs as I swivel my head around. I dont even wanna know how many I attracted from my scream or the smell of blood. 

Please, keep him safe. 

I can feel blood, hot and sticky, streaming down my back. 

I watch as everything closes in. I can barely even see my own hands, how the hell am i supposed to see what im fighting? 

"Jade! Run!" I need him to get away, theirs too many of them for him alone to fight, and id find a way out myself, whether it was back to him or up to heaven. 

Against my every plea he comes running through the mist, yelling things I can't hear. 

"Run away!" I scream, begging him to leave.

I probably look terrible right now from his expression. Instead of the normal brave, focused look he has he looks... scared. 

The tears finally fall as i try to call him away again but no sound comes out. I start falling though i dont realize it until i feel muscular arms wrap around me and lower me to the ground. 

"Leave..." I can feel his body moving to fight as i stay slumped, half dead in his arms. I can hear my heart slowing along with my breath. "Leave. Please...". 

I can hear his response loud and clear this time. "No." 

"But Jade..."

He looks at me, knowing iv remembered the conversation from over a month ago. When this all truly started. 

"I love you. Forever." 

It comes out weak and strong at the same time. a definite answer in an uncertain situation. 

Something changes in his expression, a look of fear, mourning, loss. He shakes his head slowly as a purple glow surrounds me and i feel him pick me up off the ground. 

The world goes black.
