Riley wasn’t sure why Alfie had told her to meet him in Studio A. She had been trying to avoid him, as whenever she was near him, her heart beat a little faster, and she got more nervous than she usually was. However, she didn’t want to turn down an innocent request from one of her dancers for a meeting.

When Riley arrived, Alfie eagerly directed her to a chair in the middle of the room. He picked up a guitar, and began playing it softly. Then he began to sing.

You know I’m crazy ‘bout you
I think your crazy ‘bout me too

His voice had a soft lilting accent, that Riley couldn’t help admiring as he sang to her. He knelt in front of her, and their eyes made contact. As he finished singing, Alfie slowly stood back up. Riley imitated him. They looked at each other for a moment. Slowly, Alfie placed his hand on her face, and when she didn’t flinch, he leaned forward and kissed her on the lips. After a moment’s hesitation, Riley found herself kissing him back. Alfie reluctantly released her, and they stood a moment looking into each other’s eyes. Alfie then took one of Riley’s hands in his, lifted it to his mouth, and bit it. His fangs sank quickly into her hand, and then he let go. Riley looked at the twin pinpricks of blood coming from her hand disinterestedly. Strangely, she felt no pain.

“What was that for?” she asked.

“I needed you to become a vampire, like me.” He gazed intently at her, willing her to not freak out.

“A vampire?” Riley asked. “Like a bat? Like blood-drinking?”

Alfie hesitated before answering.
“Yes.” Riley went pale. “But it’s okay,” Alfie went on hurriedly. “The effects won’t kick in for about a day. Then you’ll need to taste human blood everyday to avoid going crazy, but I have plenty stored at my castle. I’m the crown prince of the supernatural world, you know. You can come live with me in my castle, forever.”

Riley suddenly realized what he was saying. “I have a boyfriend,” she said.

“Well, we don’t really use that word among vampires, but yes, technically we are now dating.”

“No,” said Riley, pulling away from him. “I mean I have a human boyfriend. Who I’m currently dating.”

“Get rid of him then,” replied Alfie immediately.

“You mean, like, kill him?” Riley asked, horrified.

“No. Although that is a good idea… No, just break up with him. Tell him you’ve found someone new.”

“I can’t,” said Riley, shaking her head.

“It’ll break his heart. No, I’m sorry, Alfie, but-”

Alfie suddenly hissed at her, and his eyes flashed red. He took a threatening step towards her.

“You wouldn’t hurt me.” Riley tried to sound brave, but her voice shook slightly.

Alfie stopped. “No. I’m not going to hurt you. There are however others that I wouldn’t be so kind to.” Riley’s mind immediately went to her older sister, Emily. Her parents. Her friends. James.

“Alright,” agreed Riley softly. “I’ll break up with him. Tomorrow.”
