Emily’s plan was simple, yet promising.

Riley, however, didn’t like it. “How are we going to get Alfie to attack someone?”

“I’ll do it,” James offered. “He hates me enough, and he’d have no hesitancy doing it.”

“No,” said Riley immediately. “You could get hurt.”

“James is right,” interjected Emily, “Alfie would jump at the opportunity to attack his most hated rival.”

Emily’s plan was centered around Alfie getting arrested for attempted murder. They just needed someone to play the victim for the authorities' sake.

“James just has to make sure to avoid getting physically injured by Alfie,” Emily said, trying to convince Riley.

“But will that be enough to persuade the authorities that he tried to kill me?” James wondered out loud.

“It doesn’t matter, because you won’t be able to stop him,” said Riley, resigned. “Vampires are like ten times faster than humans.” There was a moment of silence at this unexpected obstruction.

“Make James a vampire, too,” said Emily brightly. “You said that vampires are immortal, right? Alfie will think he’s still a weak human, he’ll attack him, then James can ‘die’,” here she made finger quotes in the air,

“And Alfie gets arrested for murder.”

“No, I already said I wouldn’t-” began Riley.

Emily grabbed Riley by the shoulders, and looked into her eyes. “It’s the only way.”

Riley sagged under her sister’s look. “Fine.”

Emily released her. “Now, everything has a weakness, even immortal vampires. How does one kill a vampire?”

“Garlic should do the trick,” said James knowingly.

“That’s not true!” said Riley, indignantly. “I like garlic.”

“Ah, but have you had it since you turned into a vampire?”

Riley rolled her eyes. “Regardless, it wouldn’t be strong enough to-”

“Enough,” said Emily. “Riley, just tell me how to kill a vampire. James, no speaking.”

James narrowed his eyes at her, but stayed quiet.

“Alfie said an iron stake through the heart is fatal to vampires. But I don’t understand why you need to know.” Riley’s eyes suddenly widened in understanding. “Wait, you’re not suggesting we kill him!?”

Emily frowned. “What does it matter? Unless, you actually care about him?”
James scowled at her. “Um… no?” said Riley, uncertainly. “It just… seems a bit extreme.”

“We’ll just use it to threaten him,” Emily assured her. “Okay?”
Riley nodded her consent. “Okay.”
