Yuri woke to find that Victor was no longer beside him. He frowned, feeling a sense of loneliness. He could hear muffled voices from the living room now.
"I'm sorry about this. I wouldn't have bothered, but I just couldn't put Yuri through it. You should've seen him at the hospital. He's so sick and exhausted. I just couldn't leave him alone with a fever. Thank you." Victor's tone was filled with deep concern as he explained the situation.
"I never thought I'd live to see the day, Vitya," Yakov replied. "You finally found something that means more than skating."
"Well, when someone like Yuri comes along, things change. He's more precious to me than all the gold medals in the world, more than my own life." The ill man's heart lept with joy. If Victor spoke so lovingly when he thought Yuri couldn't hear him, it must be true.
"Do you have to be so sappy?" Yurio growled.
"One day you'll understand. When you find that one person who can turn your whole world around. That one person you would do anything in the world for. I'd give up everything I have for Yuri, even my life. I hope you know what it feels like someday, Yurio. It's incredible."
"Whatever. Can we go now?" The teen grumbled. It was another minute before Victor reappeared in the doorway carrying a bag and a humidifier. He smiled at his love.
"You're awake, are you feeling any better?" The silver-haired man asked.
"Not really," Yuri admitted, there was no point in downplaying it now. Victor pulled the humidifier from the box, setting it up on the nightstand.
"I'm sorry I wasn't in here when you woke up," Victor said. "I wanted you to have your medicine as soon as possible, so I asked Coach Yakov to stop by and grab it. The thing about being a coach is that if you're in it for the right reason, it's more than just money. Even after I left, he made sure I knew I could call him if I need anything. I know to the outside world he doesn't seem like the type of person to do that, but he's a good man."
"Yeah. I don't know him as well as you do, but I kind of got that feeling from him. But I really didn't mean to be so much trouble. I could've gotten it tomorrow. I'm just so tired and-"
"Yuri, I promise you, it wasn't any trouble. If he didn't want to do it, he wouldn't have," Victor reached into the bag, removing Yuri's medication, and reading the label on the pill bottle. "Are you ready for your medicine? This says you'll have to eat with it. Do you want anything specific?" Yuri shook his head.
"I'm not hungry." He replied weakly. Victor sat down on the edge of the bed.
"I know, but remember what I said about keeping your strength up, and you don't want to get sicker from taking these on an empty stomach. If I bring you some soup, will you try?"
"I don't think I-"Victor reached out, caressing the younger man's pale cheek. Yuri leaned his face into his palm.
"Please, Yuri...for me?"The perfect blue eyes pleaded with Yuri, who couldn't refuse. Yuri nodded.
"I'll try but I can't promise I can take much."
"As long as you try, that's all I ask. After you've had your medicine I can let you sleep. Do you need more pillows or another blanket?"
"No, I'm okay with what I have. " Victor stood up.
"I'll be back soon. I'll go make some soup and bring some crackers. You just take it easy in here." Yuri nodded, watching the older man exit the bedroom and move out of sight. Yuri turned his attention to the television. He searched through the channels until he noticed a familiar face.
