January 28th 2024,
I knew when I woke that I'd be the one to get Zack some medicine, after all I felt like it was my fault. Everyone else was still asleep so I gathered my supplies to get ready for my trip to the pharmacy. On my way out of the house I stopped on the porch still recalling the events of the previous night. I know we couldn't be together. I knew she loved Zack, but why couldn't I get her out of my head. I came to the conclusion that no matter how many girls I had, I was jealous that I couldn't have this one. When I arrived at the pharmacy it was completely abandoned. Not a single zombie for miles, no way was I that lucky. I walked in and started rummaging around the shelves looking for anything left behind. There were some vitamins and supplements and two bottles of painkillers, so I grabbed what I could and left with a feeling that I was being watched. I looked back and saw a glint of green glow that gave me chills down my spine.
I pressed forward trying not to think of whatever that glow was. On my way to the house I noticed a lady was laying on the ground grabbing her leg and wincing in pain. I went over to her and helped her dress the wounds with one of my old shirts. "Thank you." she said, letting out a deep sigh. "What are you doing out here?" I asked as I helped her up. "I was separated from my congregation." She looked me up and down. "Speaking of you look like you'd be a good addition to my church."
I looked at her and said "I don't believe in god." She smiled in a kind of way that reminds you why clowns creep children out. "Neither do we, I am God." When she said that there was something that felt off, like I should just take off and leave, but I didn't. Her eyes started glowing black.
They called me. They looked so warm and inviting like I was gonna be a part of something that was bigger than me, and I would no longer need to worry about all this end of the world stuff.
Then came the pain. "You will follow me." She demanded "I need more followers!" she screamed as I regained my attention to what was happening. I started running as fast as I could.
"Not enough." she kept mumbling to herself while she followed me. "Come here and worship me!" She yelled as I got further and further away from her. Whatever she was or what that feeling was, was not right.
When I came back into the house everyone was kinda just sitting around silently. "Worship lord Mary." They all chanted and stood up. "Woah guys what's gotten into you." I backed up into a corner and started falling into blackness. I closed my eyes and when I opened them again I could see myself as if I was looking out of her eye. I realized I had never escaped her.
She laughed until a very familiar voice rang out. "Let him go, Mary." It was Mr.Jackson. "He's one of my old students." Her smile slowly turned to a frown and I got zipped back into my body. "Run kid." Mr.Jackson smiled and I knew what situation I was in.
I ran hard, this time hoping what I was doing was real. When I got back to the house I had to catch my breath. It was like I just ran a marathon. I brought the medicine to Zack's room. When I walked in I saw Lisa holding his hand. "I got medicine." I said softly as I walked over to her. "How's he doing?
"Alright I guess, his fever's gone down, but he still isn't awake" She looked so tired I guessed she'd been there all night so I left them alone to check on the others.
Lisa's parents walked up to me and asked how she was doing. I told them that she was ok and Zack will be better soon.
Lias's parents aren't exactly what you would call sane. They both served in the army and are suffering because of it. Her mom has a hard time forming any coherent thoughts and her father is basically a potato. He can't move or think properly. But no matter how hard it got for them they always made sure Lisa had everything she needed and in turn she took care of them.
James was playing some cards with Kat in the kitchen so I left them alone and went to sit on the porch.
What was I gonna tell them. I had seen the unexplainable, had I met god? What was Mr.Jackson doing with her and why'd she listen to him. Why is it always when you know more you actually know less?
Then there was the scream. We all rushed up to Zack's room where Lisa was cowering in the corner, not that I could see what was going on the greatest, there was a bright yellow glow coming from Zack's eyes! He sat up and was gone in a flash.
