Light was starting to disappear from the evening sky, and some street lamps lighted up to illuminate the quiet streets. The young woman screamed at the top of her lungs, but there was no one near enough to hear her cry for help. Her hand-embroidered kebaya top hanging from one shoulder where it had been ripped by the man who was attacking her. He was a strong lean man, not more than twenty five years old, wearing a military uniform and a moustache.
She tried to move into the next room, slamming the door shut behind her. It was no use. He kicked the door into pieces, and continued to ravage her. As the pain became unbearable, she fainted. A golden piece of her kerosang that had held her dress together was now on the dusty floor, its lustre gone.

Moving slowly as if on a stage, the girl walked along the tree lined boulevard. Her dainty feet were clad in beautiful slippers, decorated with a thousand tiny seed beads with a floral design. The air hung around her, shrouded her with mystery, but she continued her slow walk towards the town Centre.
Men and women stopped to look at her, wondering who she was. They admired her kebaya, a soft purple sheer blouse with intricate embroidery, held together in front with a set of three gold brooches , each shining off their Nyonya motives. Her sexy buttocks under the batik sarong were moving in a hypnotic manner, never letting go of any man's gaze.
Everyone, young or old alike was looking at her now. As she moved closer to the group of curious people standing on the grass to let her pass, they tried to see her face. Yes, that was the most important part of her mystery. Surely she had to be the most beautiful girl in the world.
