The holidays were finally over, and Ken had started his work in the British trading company. There was so much to do and to learn, so he was kept busy all the time. The voice had continued speaking to him every night, and now he understood that one of his bosses was the murderer.
Sounds of a funeral was approaching, and people in the streets were watching. Ken joined his colleagues at the window. Yes, there was a procession, with moaners dressed in the traditional white robes, scattering hell money into the air while the musicians played a Christian hymn.
As the coffin was just under the window, Ken noticed that a white payung had been placed on top. And in the front, there was a black and white portrait of the deceased, a pretty young girl.
"The white umbrella is always used in funerals", a woman said to Ken. "It is placed there to give her shade, from the hot sun or rain."
It was a sad funeral, such a young girl, and she must have had many friends too, for the procession was quite long. Ken stood at the window watching all this, and his mind went back to the conversation he had had with those two men there in the coffee shop.
This must be the third victim. Another young girl raped and strangled to death in some old house just outside the city Centre.
Ken tried his best to recall all that his ghostly voice had told him. The murderer was an Englishman, wearing a military uniform and a moustache. But he didn't know anyone like that.

Ko Kor, the dead girl's brother was crying as he walked under the gloomy sky. He had loved his little sister so much, and now he must send her on her journey to the other side. The Baba and Nyonya had a saying, that when they die, they return to their home land.
The police had not been able to find the murderer, and he had already killed three girls. This was really a world gone mad. Things had always been so peaceful here in Malacca. People were happy and the locals were so proud of their heritage.
As the funeral procession disappeared down the road, the few people at the window went back to their desk to work. Ken felt sad. Surely there must be something he could do. He wanted so much to help the poor ghost who had been calling out to him, and he really didn't want to let her down.
He made up his mind then, tonight he would speak to the ghost.
