Animals... he stood there, pressed against the wall as he peered at the creature before him... a mule.
Camilo licked his lips, his hands rubbing each other in tense anticipation. The sun was high in the sky, the land all around full of flourishing trees and plants.
He began to grin up one side of his face, his curly dark hair being blown away from his eyes as he prepared to tackle the mule right in front of him.
Just one small step, then another and suddenly he shape-shifted into a huge man, running at the stubborn animal and tackling it to the ground.
The mule shrieked under his grip and he quickly got onto its back, going for an unsuspecting joy ride.
Camilo gripped his hands around the mule's neck, holding on for dear life. Suddenly the angry animal flung its back legs up in a buck, instantly flinging Camilo off and the teenage boy landed on his rear, laughing all the way.
"Wow,"
He got his bearings and looked around for who had said that. He eventually landed his gaze on Mirabel who had been watching in the distance and had witnessed the whole thing. He just smirked, getting quickly back on his legs and giving a still confident smirk.
"Easy as can be," He said, and Mirabel raised an eyebrow, approaching him slowly as her arms were folded and she asked.
"Why... I may ask, are you harassing mules?"
He looked slowly back into her dark eyes, before slamming his hands to his waist and plucking his chest out, shape shifting it into a huge muscular six pack.
"Why, may I asked," He repeated back to her and Mirable blinked her eyes plainly, waiting for him to finish, "-are you not?"
His cousin only burst into helpless laughter, not understanding Camilo at all. At seeing her giddy face, the shape shifter decided to come clean.
"I'm practising," Is all he said. But when he saw that this answer wasn't satisfying Mirabel, he added, "For bull fighting,"
"Oh, those poor animals..." Mirabel lamented and shook her head in disapproval, "What did they ever do to anyone?"
Camilo only stared at his cousin in amaze at her sombre reply. Even though they had grown up together and were the same age... the two couldn't be further away in morality or maturity.
"Hmm... right, cous." He finally replied and began to walk off back to the house. Mirabel blinked, surprised, and thinking she had offended her cousin somehow. She quickly raced after him, the house door opening by itself to let her in instantly and she rushed over to Camilo's room, thinking that is where he had gone.
As she rattled her knuckles to the glowing door, she only heard a moan.
"Occupied-o!"
She knew he was just trying to find a way to ignore her, but she wanted to apologize at least... she slowly pushed his golden shining door open and peered into his room.
She blinked puzzled, as she always seemed to forget what his room looked like. It was full of mirrors, so many it was almost a maze to get to his bed.
She stepped in carefully, just pressing her toes slowly on the tiled ground.
"What are you doing?"
She froze, and looked around for Camilo. She then saw reflections of herself in nearly every mirror. She gulped and stood up straight, but her reflections didn't comply. They looked like they were walking around her, circling her and making her dizzy.
Finally her relection shape shifted right before her eyes, and she saw Camilo take back on his normal form.
"I..." She began, rubbing her upper arm with her opposite hand and smiling awkwardly, "I came to say sorry..."
Camilo just pulled a face, not understanding what she meant.
"Y'know," Mirabel went on, trying to explain, "Making fun at you... um 'practice' bull riding."
He looked at her slowly, very confused. He suddenly stepped out from behind a mirror and only grinned, shrugging his shoulders as he continued, "Cous, my skin is thicker than it looks,"
"Ha ha," Mirabel laughed weakly and Camilo pushed her towards the door, "Just don't come into my room without permission, okay, Cous?"
"And why?" She asked cockily, raising an eyebrow.
"BeCAUSE," Camilo went on, laughing to himself as he reached the door and shoved her out, "I could be naked or something."
"That was an image I didn't want engraved in my mind," Mirabel replied blankly, and when she turned around to face him, all she got was a door slammed in her face. Mirabel stood there, shocked and offended herself.
She always tried to put in the effort of being there for her loved ones... it just seemed they didn't want that. They didn't want her company and love.
She sighed heavily, her head tilting down as her curly hair fell in her face before she walked in sombre steps away back to the nursery.
One day she'd have a room of her own she hoped... for that was the only thing she could do, is hope.
As Camilo looked at himself in the mirrors, he slowly tried to do the one thing he thought was impossible.
To shape shift... into an animal.
People might call him crazy... but a part of him knew, he had to try. He had to grow his power and be the best he could be.
He slowly creased his eyebrows, a serious frown on his lips, as he looked at himself in the mirrors that surrounded him. He took a deep breath in, making all his muscles jiggle and bounce.
In that second he felt himself transform, and he slowly dropped to his all fours, becoming the spitting image of the mule he had only wrestled today.
When he saw his reflection, he gasped, instantly turning back to his former self, and he breathed heavily, panting almost, at what he had just accomplished.
When he stood up straight, he watched his reflections, and they watched him back it felt like.
He smirked, his mirror image copying him and he slowly reached his leg out, skipping in near glee as he left the room, shutting the door closed.
Life was about to get a whole lot more interesting.
