Eden

You see, my parents named me Eden. They aren't religious, but they decided to name me Eden because apparently they wanted me to be called, basically, heaven incarnate. But in middle school, people stayed away from me because they thought I was a religious nutjob. I hated my name. When I got to high school, I resolved to never let people think I was a religious nutjob. Ever again.

So, freshman year, when I started at Westlake High School, which was fifty minutes away from my old school by car, I was all gung-ho about romance and friends. For sure, I became popular, making tons of friends within the first week. My life was boring, but it was a first for me. However, I felt like I wasn't being authentic. My friends were all about make-up and boys, and I have never once thought a boy was cute. So I lied, saying that I liked the most popular boy, Brendon. My friends took it way too far though, putting confession notes in his locker and pretending they were from me. The rest of the high school were rooting for us to get together. This happened all the way through junior year. Then, a quarter way through my senior year, I met her.

Now, I was surprised at myself. I thought I knew everyone in my classes senior year. I wasn't too good at grades, barely managing to get the average grade, a C, in all of my classes. But there was one girl, and she was never in class, but somehow managed to get the highest grade in all of my classes. Her desk was always empty, so no one knew who she was. Only her name, and when you don't have a face to put to the name, you are left without any leads. I was always curious about her. So, one day, I asked the teacher who the girl was, and this was the first time I had heard such a beautiful name.

Her name was Nova, like a supernova which preludes the birth of a star. (HAHA isn't that funny. I suck at science but still managed to remember that.) Nova Umbra, daughter of a physics professor in New York. Apparently, since her mother was a physicist (as I discovered on the internet. Gotta love Google), she was quite rich from important discoveries. However, since she was in New York, her daughter lived alone in a very large house. But on the internet, there were no photos of her daughter, just her. Stella Umbra had black hair like a shade of night, and intense blue eyes.

I was curious, but I knew it would be incredibly hard to find out what Nova looked like.

So, the next day, when I went to school, I looked for Nova, even though I would not have recognized her had she responded. I quickly decided I needed to bring my grade up in Algebra 1, from a D to a C, so I went to the library to read some books on it. I checked out a book and decided to sit down at the nearest table to read it. I noticed a girl with dyed white hair sitting across from me. She was asleep in a book. The book's title was The Stars And Under A Collection Of Science Fiction. I thought she was really pretty, with her delicate, long eyelashes, and when she opened her eyes, I was startled by the somber grey of them. And then I thought, is this what a crush feels like?
