In her room, all alone, just the way she liked it, she sat reading a book. Aileen McCammack was this young 14 year old girls name. From the shimmer in her forest green eyes, to her black combat boots that peeked out of her lilac colored dress. Most people could tell, she wasn’t abnormal on the outside. But on the inside, her mind ran wild. In her mind she ran with wolves, battled dragons, and caused mass destruction. Aileen had to remind herself what reality and fiction was at times. When she talked to her mother about these things, well Mrs.McCammack just blamed it on too many fictitious books.

However, Aileen knew this wasn’t the case. Her thoughts and sometimes visions seemed too surreal for them to just be based off of books. When she saw the dragons, she could see every little detail on them, from the scales, to their intricate designs on their armor. Why would a Dragon need armor though? She’d ask herself every time. When she climbed the highest mountain to look at the full moon surrounded by the fullest forest, she could feel the crisp cool night air, her eyes could scan every single dark spot, and indention on it. She didn’t know why. But she didn’t care either.

Aileen’s mother called for her to come out for brunch, she’s was so excited that the sarcasm was through the roof. Another boring meal with her father’s colleagues.

She went down anyways, her book she was reading in her hand. Her father was the CEO for some trading company. Aileen didn’t know, and she really didn’t care either. She didn’t want to get involved with all that illegal stuff. However, she knew one day she’d have to take her father’s place, seeing she was the first born. She sat at the large and long table, it was decorated with a rather ornate table cloth that was sewn by hand by one of her ancestors. It had several trays all scattered about the table.

Aileen looked rather bored, not touching any of the food. Just reading her book. She was absorbed in the story, the words made pictures in her head that played as clear as a movie. “Aileen, please. Not at the table.” Her mother looked over at her. She mumbled to herself and marked her page, setting it down on the table. Instead of listening to her father talk about what trades were going into America that week, she looked around her surroundings. The forest trees swayed with the wind, the sun was halfway blocked with a white, fluffy cloud. Her green eyes glowed a little, she looked over the forest again.

That’s when she saw it. Those two eyes, she shook her head, they were still there. They were too big to be any regular animal’s eyes. The color was too abnormal to be any regular animal’s too, it was almost a mix between yellow and purple. They shimmered too, even if they were in the inky black of the forest. It would be a frightful sight for any normal person. However Aileen didn’t feel any sort of fear. It seemed like something she would have seen everyday. She didn’t exactly know why she felt like this. She blinked a few times before the pair of eyes disappeared. Aileen looked away, maybe she’d been staring for a few minutes. Because both her parents were looking at her. She blinked a few more times, “What?” She mumbled. Her parents exchanged looks.

Aileen once again was in her bedroom, reading a book with a flashlight in hand. She decided after the incident at lunch, she would sneak out to try and find the creature with the magnificent eyes. She’d just have to wait for her parents to go to bed. Good thing she was an insomniac. She knew she wouldn’t have to wait much longer, the time was edging closer to 2:00 AM. She tossed and turned, waiting for the echo of her parent’s bedroom door to echo throughout the McCammack mansion.

She waited, and waited, and waited. Then 2:00 AM finally hit, almost like clockwork she heard the echo. Aileen jumped up out of the bed, being careful not to make much noise. She changed into a pair of brown pants, a green shirt, a white jacket, and her favorite black combat boots. Aileen got out a satchel she opened it and tossed in a journal, a flashlight, and her favorite book.

Aileen descended down the stairs, quickly but quietly. She slid out of the front door, she was free! She pulled out her flashlight, turned it on and navigated through the courtyard. She walked towards the forest, shining her light at the trees. So far, Aileen saw nothing.  She walked along the tree line for a moment, she decided it’d be best to enter the forest.

She parted the branches of the trees in front of her. They lead to a small clearing. She walked in, almost getting slapped in the face by a branch. “Dammit.” She sighed. Aileen looked around herself. She shined her flashlight to illuminate the things the blue moonlight didn’t. She looked around a little more, trying to picture how much farther she’d have to go to be in the same place where the event happened. Aileen’s eyes scanned over the trees, nothing as far as her forest green eyes could see. She treaded onward. Her boots making little noise as the grass and leaves beneath her crunched and bent. Her form made tiny tremors in the cool Ireland night.

She looked around the familiar scene. This was it. Where she saw it. Now, the only thing left to do, is find out what had those glorious yet heinous eyes. She had lost track of how much time had passed. Aileen shone her flashlight on every tree around. However she could find nothing. She delved deeper into the dark forest.

A dark cave with the mouth covered with ivy vines wasn’t far off from the place she had saw the sight. Her flashlights rays wouldn’t shine much past the ivy. For the first time in a while, Aileen was a just a bit afraid. Not of what could happen. But of what would happen if she didn’t investigate further. Her feet moved almost on their own, her brain didn’t have to command them to move.

Aileen had little to no control over her actions right now, but she didn’t care. They were doing as she had intended. Her slender hands reached out and moved the ivy out of the way. She stepped into the cave, she really expected to see nothing more than darkness equal to the kind in the forest. Instead she was greeted by, a door. Not an average house door, the kind you’d find at either a pub or a castle. Not much of a difference.

The door had a painting of a rock on it. Her eyebrows bunched together into a frown of confusion. She slowly backed away and out of the cave. She turned around, she almost fell back in surprise. Another being stood in the clearing. She held her breath. It was a male.

Aileen studied him. He had a strong jawline. His hair was neatly trimmed and a bit spiky. Within further examination she noticed he had armor on. Like a night. On his vambrace, there was a symbol. It looked like fire? Perhaps so. The cave door behind her started to open. Aileen had to get out of there without being noticed. She darted into the trees surrounding the clearing. She couldn’t help but peek out and watch what was to happen next.

She expected another human to walk out of the cave. This night was just full of surprises for her. Because, she got a dragon instead of a human. It looked just like the one she saw in a dream a few nights ago. From the white eyes from the shimmering brown and green scales to the sharp talon like claws that had an orange glow to them.

The male had looked up at the dragon, he had a little smirk on his face. “So that’s how we’re going to do this meeting?” He was american. He sighed and closed his eyes. For a few seconds everything was dead quiet.

The male let out a terrible shriek as he hunched over and fell to his knees. His back started to twist unnaturally. His nails started to grow longer, sharper, and bigger. He cried out as spikes started to break through his armor. His voice became deeper as sparks sputtered out of his mouth occasionally.

Aileen couldn’t watch anymore. She was already feeling a little sick to her stomach from watching this long. She started to sprint back home. not noticing her notebook fell out as she ran back to her residence.

She slipped through her mansion doors and ran quietly back up the stairs. She shut and locked her door. Of course she couldn’t sleep yet. She changed out of her clothes and made it seem like she had been home all this time.

Aileen laid in her queen sized bed, looking up at her ceiling. In nothing but darkness she spaced out until sunrise.
