It's been about a thousand years. Wait no, that's not right, maybe ten thousand.
I get up and look at the calendar. "oh yeah, it's been a millennium." I sigh as I mark another day off the calendar. "You'd think I'd be used to waking up after doing it for a whole millennium." I say as I stretch.
Oh, I'm sorry, I haven't introduced myself. I'm Kristen Stewart. And I've been alive for a millennium. You see, in my world there's two types of people. The norms and the matched.
The norms are the people who are born, live a normal life and die a normal death. That's about eighty percent of the population. While the other twenty percent are the matched. These people are cursed with the inability to die without finding their Soulmate.
Some People think it's a gift. But me, I look at it as what it is. A curse. I have already given up looking for my soulmate because I have lived the longest life. I have come to a conclusion that my soulmate is or was a norm. There's no use in looking for him.
I'm currently the most famous person in the world because of my business. No one knows how long I've lived, all they know is that I'm a matched. They have no idea that I have been here since probably the beginning of time.
As I sit in my office I can't help but think about death. What it's like and how it feels. I can't help but want that feeling.
The sound of gunshots down stairs snaps me out of my thoughts. I roll my eyes already sick and tired of seeing those around me die, wondering why it couldn't be me.
I pick up my phone to call my best friend. Out of all five hundred and twenty nine this one is truly my favorite. I only wish she wasn't a norm.
I tried calling about three times. But she didn't pick up. I thought of where she was last and my heart dropped when I remembered her saying she was coming to see me at the office.
I quickly ran down stairs knowing the elevator would be too slow. As I ran I hoped that please, please let her be alright. And I'm pretty sure I jinxed myself because when I got there the first body I saw was hers. I sighed. I didn't cry. I had stopped doing that years ago. Although I must admit, I had never felt more Compelled to do it than in that moment.
I looked at the men with guns as they left with bags of money. Then I walked over to my best friend's body and dipped my hand in her blood as I made a vow, "I promise to avenge you Lisa, and kill the men responsible."
I had definitely surprised myself with that statement. I never did stuff like this, and now look at me. There was nothing I needed more than to talk to her. But I couldn't... Because she was dead.
I walked back to my office as I heard the police sirens coming. I didn't know what to do at this point so I sat and looked at the blood on my hand. A tight smile formed on my face when I thought about the way I would kill them all.
Again my train of thought was disturbed but this time by a knock on the door."Come in!" I shouted from the inside. A tall, dark skinned man walked in. He was wearing a black suit and had dark shades. If I didn't know any better I'd say he came straight out of the men in black.
"Miss Stewart, right?" He asked raising his eyebrows."Who's asking?" I said also mimicking his gesture."I am." And with that he sat on a chair and continued talking."Are you aware of the shooting that just recently happened on your ground floor?"
With that statement I just realized 'I ran down thirty five floors in a matter of minutes. Huh. Weird.'
"Ms Stewart? Are you alright?" The man asked me. I stared at him and tilted my head, "I'm sorry, who are you?"
"I'm detective Ford, from the Magnum firm. I was appointed to this case to find the people that broke into your building. I've also been told they murdered a few individuals." he said, as he put out pictures of people on my table. My gaze landed on one person specifically. I think you know who it is. Tears threatened to come out so pushed down all the feelings and said to him, "Alright so people died, money was lost and there was a little collateral damage along the way. It happens at least twice a month, so what?"
He sighed, I could tell he was getting sick of me. " I know Ms Stewart but these aren't your average criminals you see, I have been after them for five years, these guys are bad news."
"Five years is a long time Mr Ford, I mean if you've been looking for them for that long I think this really isn't your case."
"This is my case Ms Stewart, these people took something valuable from me." He said, with the most serious face I'd seen yet.
"Alright whatever, now what did you want from me?"
"I needed to know if you know any of these people personally?" He said, with a somewhat sympathetic look. I took one last look at my best friend and said,"No."
He nodded and walked out.'I didn't need their help, Infact they would just get in my way. I was going to do this alone.'
I went back to the ground floor and as I expected the police were everywhere. I tried my best to avoid them but with my luck I just had to bump into my favorite detective. As I walked closer I could see him arguing with some guy.
"Boss I promise that I got them this time."Ford pleaded. "I'm sorry Ford but I've made up my mind. I'm calling in Rogers." the man answered.
This man had white hair and wrinkled face. He looked roughly in his eighties. But he talked quite a lot. He kind of looked like a Steve, maybe Shellden. I didn't really care what they were talking about so I tried to zoom passed. All in vain by the way because just when I was about to enter my car I heard, "Ms Stewart!" I simply turned and smiled, "Mr Ford."
"This is my boss, Mr Stan Harvey." He said pointing at the white haired man.'I was close.' I thought as I shrugged.
"Hi" I said emotionless. "It's a pleasure Ms Stewart." Stan said with a smile. "Yes well the pleasure is all yours" I said trying my best to smile. "I simply wanted to let you know that Mr Ford is no longer on this case, and we now have Mr Rogers. And I assure you we will get to the bottom of this and.. " I couldn't let him finish. "Alright that's lovely, but I ought to get going now. I really couldn't care less who's on this case, so have a lovely day gentlemen." And with that I got into my car and drove off.
I think I made it clear enough that I didn't care at all. All I cared about now was avenging Lisa. And nothing was going to stop me.
Once I got home I quickly went down stairs to the basement and got all the guns and knives I kept down there. Once I'd gotten all my necessities I packed them in my bag and headed out. I wore an outfit with a hoodie and a half mask that covered most of my face, it was blue and black. Perfect for killing people and really comfortable too.
I was literally about to leave when I heard a knock on my door. I considered sneaking out the back and letting whoever that was leave without me attending to them but it seemed a little sketchy. So I popped on a hoodie and some baggy sweatpants to hide the outfit and went to open the door.
There stood a tall, Brunette with grey eyes wearing a black suit and a slight smirk as he stared at my outfit."I'm sorry Ms Stewart, did I come at an inappropriate time?"He asked. I could tell he was amused by my outfit. "Yeah you did actually, I was just heading out."I said trying to make him leave.
"oh really?"
"yes really. So if you'd just leave I could.."
"Oh right I didn't introduce myself."He started as he interrupted me,"I'm Matthew Rogers and I will be the detective that'll be working on your case. Mr Harvey, who I assume you've already meet, told me to come and inform you about this."
"How did you know where I live?" I asked completely ignoring everything else he said.
"I'm a detective love."
"Yeah alright whatever British boy I'm gonna need you to leave alright." I said as I slowly closed the door.
"I suppose we'll meet tomorrow?" He looked at me with his eyebrows up.
"Yeah sure whatever British boy."
After that I waited a few minutes to make sure he left then I took off the baggy clothes and headed out. As I got into my car I bruised my hand a little. It would be alright, it would heal in a matter of seconds anyway.
It's a good thing I have photographic memory and memorized that numberplate when those thugs were leaving my building. I quickly hacked the traffic lights and tracked down that car.
After about two hours of driving I got to this house. I simply let myself in, I first saw an old woman sleeping on a couch and it smelt like she'd been smoking. I simply walked past and heard movement upstairs so I followed it. I found this guy playing video games on computer. I just hit the back of his head hard enough to get his attention.
"What the heck?! What are you doing here?"he questioned, still surprised to see me. "I just wanna ask you a few questions. Alright Now we can either do this the easy way or my way." I said the last part with a slight smirk.
"Wait what?! Who let you in here?"
"I let myself in, now back on track. Do you know who I am?"
"You're Kristen Stewart."He said slightly trembling.'Good' I thought,'He better be scared. Because I'm gonna kill him.'
"Were you in my building this morning?"
"What no I.."
"That's a lie. Try again."
"I'm not lying I swear I.. "
"The hard way it is." I said as I put down three guns. "Amongst these three guns one of them is loaded. Fortunately for you I don't know which one that is. So I'm gonna ask you the some questions three times, or Less. And if you lie to me I'll pull the trigger. We clear?"
"You're crazy! You're not gonna do that."
"Try me." I said as I picked the first gun, "Were you in my building today?"
"I told you I wasn't I swear.."I pulled the trigger.
"Hmm" I said looking at the gun. "Guess it wasn't the one." I picked up the next gun. As the guy touched his chest to make sure he was ok.
"Let's try again shall we. Were you in my building today?"
"Yes, yes I was. But it's not what you think.."
"What exactly is it that I think?"
"I don't know but it isn't good."
"Next question, were you among them?"
"What are you even talking about?"
"The people that robbed the place! Were you among them?!"
"I promise I wasn't I just came to.." I pulled the trigger.
"Only one left." I said to him as I lifted the last gun.
"Alright, alright I was part of them. I stole your money and.. and it was just supposed to be a joke but then.."
"I don't care. I don't want your excuses. Just answer my questions." A tear dropped from my eyes, 'Ughhh, I can't believe I'm crying now. Just what I needed',"Where and who are your friends?"
"No, I can't tell you that. If you're gonna arrest me just do it. But I'm not telling you about my friends."
"Arrest you? Oh I think you're mistaken, I'm not arresting you. I'm going to kill you. But if you tell about your friends I might just reconsider."
"A good friend never pulls his friends down with him."
"Those are big words for a guy with a gun at his head."I sighed, "Good bye."
"Alright fine I'll tell you."I was a little shocked.
"Why the change of mind?"
"I'm not ready to die. Not yet at Least." He sighed, "There's Chad, Brian and Mickey. Chad lives just around the corner from here, while Brian lives in the the town square up the street house number nine o nine. And I don't know much about Mikey I swear. So please don't kill me now. I'm sorry if you lost someone dear to you, but I didn't kill anyone, I just wanted to make some money." He said. And I was sure he wasn't lying.
"Thanks." I said and pulled the trigger. Nothing happened. He was completely shocked when he realized he was never going to be shot. Staring at him I said, "but if you wanted to make money you shouldn't have gone off with murderers." Then I threw a knife right in his chest and watched him drain of blood.
'One down, three to go...'
