it wasn't rare to see wooyoung in the kitchens, given that he had made quite a few good friends in every part of the castle in this past month. his friends, felix and yeonjun, greeted wooyoung when he entered the kitchen, but they certainly did not expect wooyoung to be holding hands with not just anyone, but with the crown prince himself.
"what do we do?" felix muttered to yeonjun when the two stepped in. they were currently chatting over some lemon tarts and small chuckles could be heard from the two of them. yeonjun peeked through his shoulder and saw how happy wooyoung was, his high-pitched laughter echoing off the walls of the kitchen.
yeonjun smiled, "let's just leave them to be. i doubt they'd want us to be here."
felix's eyes widened, "l-leave them to be? hyung, you've seen what happened when wooyoung hyung tried to cook. it was a disaster! (a/n: wooyoung is a cooking GOD irl but for the sake of this lets just pretend he isn't) we can't just leave them to be, they'll burn the entire kitchen down!"
yeonjun chuckled softly, taking the chocolate cake the two were secretly making for wooyoung's birthday out of the oven, "i know, i was just joking. c'mon, help me decorate this and we'll give it to him."
on the other side of the kitchen, the prince and the moon dust were sitting next to each other, lemon tarts on the silver counter as the two chatted away. wooyoung had just listened to a story san was telling him of his days as a child and not gonna lie, san was a cute baby.
"aw, i never knew baby san was that cute. i wish i had came earlier." wooyoung cooed when san mentioned how he used to sleep with plushies all over his bed that you could hardly find him in the pile of soft toys. san rolled his eyes, stuffing another lemon tart into his mouth, "shut up. now that i've talked about me, tell me about you."
wooyoung smiled, his mind wandering back to his village, "well, i have an older and younger brother, along with my parents. i go to the magic academy during the weekdays and during the weekends, i'd be hanging out with my friends. there isn't a lot to do in the village, but we love going to the market place together. there's flowers, fresh fruits, fresh spices... basically everything you need. and it's always so fascinating to go there because it'd be full of different cultures and different things every time you're there.
"the magic academy is really fun as well. we learn to make potions, learn charms and read ancient runes, practice our skills and enhance them. it's like regular school, but i'm guessing you didn't really have that, huh?" wooyoung looked at san, who just shrugged.
"had a private tutor since i was five. i don't really learn much, i guess, except for running the kingdom. i mean, that is sorta my destiny, right, to rule the kingdom?" san asked wooyoung. wooyoung shrugged as well. honestly, having your entire life planned out for you since the moment you were born sounds like shit, but wooyoung guessed that there must be some perks to it. there must be, or else that would just be torture.
wooyoung scooted his high stool a bit closer to san's so he could place his thigh on top of san's, the older raising an eyebrow at the advance. wooyoung only grinned, asking, "do you like having your life written out for you?"
san scoffed, "that's like asking you if you like knowing people's soulmates even though they might not like it."
wooyoung stayed quiet, and san sighed. it seems like wooyoung still wasn't ready for this conversation. "wooyoung-ah, we have to talk about this sooner or later. it's not just a matter between us, it's a matter concerning a lot of people, including-"
"happy birthday to you~" two voices erupted into singing, the chocolate cake that was out of the oven just minutes ago now decorated with frostings and different kinds of sprinkles. the '19' shaped candles were lit and were in wooyoung's favourite colours: black and white. as yeonjun carefully placed the cake onto the counter, felix placed two little boxes on the counter as well, smiling at wooyoung.
