Just a reminder of who these characters are based on. The role of Jayvonne is portrayed by the actor/singer/rapper Jaden Smith. The role of Aurora is portrayed by Janelle Monae. The role of Orion is portrayed by Laurent Bourgeois. The role of Canis is portrayed by Larry Bourgeois. The role of Trey is portrayed by Taye Diggs, and the role of aunt Sara is portrayed by Erykah Badu. This is a work of fan-fiction and because I'm still not sure of what the legal criteria is for this genre, I wanted to explain this. There is one more character joining the saga soon. Now...back to the story.
The somber walk back to Aunt Sara's house took much longer than it should have. The siblings didn't speak to each other. People in the neighborhood hung out at the sidewalk talking about what went down at the mall. Each person they passed looked at them suspiciously.
They crossed the street by the yard where they'd previous seen the small children playing just days before. Orion stopped at the gate looking at the tree where he'd seen the children playing. The door was open, the sound of one of the children inside crying upset O more than he cared to admit. The image of the young girl he'd seen playing in the yard replayed in his mind. Automatically, he waved though nobody was there.
The absence of Aunt Sara in the house gave it a strange quietness. Aurora flung herself into the recliner. "I don't want to believe that Drea's gone." Canis headed straight for the refrigerator rubbing his belly.
"I guess we have to figure out what to tell Jayvonne." The creaking of the cabinet door in the distance distracted Orion. He didn't want to hurt his sister anymore by talking about Drea though he considered it foolish to fall for a human in the first place. There wasn't any empathy for what his sister felt, he'd never fallen for a human before. Still, it worried him to see Aurora rocking back and forth in the recliner.
"The least Jayvonne knows the better," Canis added sitting down at the kitchen table with a container full of cold lasagna. He pushed the empty birdcage to the side digging in with a plastic fork he'd found in the cabinet. Hearing the hinge on the birdcage reminded Aurora that she'd seen their uncle in the rally.
"I saw Beauvaisie at the protest." They all said in unison. Orion sat on the edge of the table. As hungry as he was, seeing Canis grubbing out made his stomach turn. "He's probably joined with Lucy by now. There were hundreds of her minions out tonight."
They'd fallen asleep after talking about what the next steps in the mission were. The following morning, Orion pulled back the curtains by his bed. Things appeared just like every day since they arrived, people wandering up and down the street. He'd dreamt of being back in the heavenly realms with his twin dancing before the other beings. The rowdy clapping and cheering from his dream woke him up. How disappointing to wake up in a twin bed n E-7. He wished he could skip the entire mission altogether. Tossing back the covers, he put his bare feet on the floor and sighed. He started to snatch the covers off Canis who snored loudly on the opposite side of the room but remember that his brother slept naked.
"Bro, come on. We need to get to the studio." Canis didn't hear him though he twitched in his sleep, his feet dangling off the edge of the bed. He threw his pillow at him. Canis jerked upwards. "I got you Annie," he yelled out waking up.
Orion rolled his eyes. He snapped his fingers preparing for the day. His clothes changed to a fresh new pair of J's and an all-cream-colored shirt and jeans. He checked his necklace with the emblem on it. The golden pendant of an eagle reminded him of his truth. No matter what physical form he chose, he was still a God.
Aurora hadn't slept all night. She'd sat in the recliner thinking of where GodMother might have sent her precious Drea to. She could be on any heavenly realm, doing anything. She could have transformed her into all different being. Would she recognize her if she saw her again without her earthly brown skin and flowing locs? She didn't have any answers and that bothered her more than the fact she'd been murdered in a mall parking lot.
