On one evening of December, when streets in Konoha were asleep and the winter was in its power, a young man, barely 20, was walking down a street in the flurry of snow with no exact destination in mind. A bag of clothes was dangling from his hand and few pennies in his pocket, that was everything he got as belongings. What more could you expect from a university student who had just left his hostel on quarreling with the warden? Nonetheless, Kakashi didn't feel an ounce of regret. Sleeping on streets is still better than dealing with shitty warden and shitty roommate. Even if he stayed, he couldn't afford to pay the fees for next semester anyway.
After finding out his business was bankrupted and the house was on the line, Sakumo Hatake hung himself leaving everything behind including his only son. This all happened just a few weeks ago and Kakashi wondered how quickly he became homeless without the support of his father. A week before his death, Sakumo still sent money to him like usual, pretending everything was fine. He never opened up his problems and of course Kakashi was struck by the news, spent a whole week alone without talking to anyone or going to classes. He had realized the last money he received from his father was all he had left before he died and he now felt stupid for spending it all. Although the thought of being left alone in the world distressed him, Kakashi knew that he couldn't mourn for the death always. It's time for him to stand on his own feet and keep living for his own sake.
The wind blew stronger as the night grew and his legs started to protest moving against the cold. His hoodie and jeans were powerless to the furious winter and at last, Kakashi chose to spend the night under the awning of a cake shop opposite the large house. Putting down the bag, he sat down at the corner, drawing his knees up. His teeth were chattering and he could see his breath and the worse thing was he hadn't eaten anything yet. Hunger seemed to be a bigger problem than the freezing weather. The growling noise of his stomach was distressingly loud and almost unbearable. With shaking half-gloved fingers, he rummaged through his bag and a smile appeared on thin lips as he found a biscuit bag he had bought a couple of days ago. But the smile dissipated when he found out there were only two left. His shitty roommate, Deidara, must have eaten behind his back.
"Fuck," Kakashi cursed, frustration and anger was gnawing up his insides.
Of course, even after eating the two biscuits, he was nowhere near full. His stomach was still rumbling and at this time, he wished nothing more than a warm home-cooked meal. But he knew he wouldn't have it.Kakashi hugged his knees tighter as the night got colder. He closed his eyes and a few yards away, he heard the sound of a door opened. His sharp ears could sense well someone approaching him quietly. Without letting his guards down, Kakashi stayed still to find out whether the steps were coming to him or not.
They were coming to him...The stranger stopped in front of him and stood silently. Kakashi instantly opened his eyes only to find a little girl about 5 or 6 awkwardly standing with a bowl and a blanket in her hand. Under the dim street light, Kakashi managed to get a clear view of her face. Light pink hair, dazzling green eyes and soft-looking chubby cheeks. She looked a bit scared and startled, judging by her eyes looking straight at the scar across his left eye. She then handed him the bowl and blanket, tempting to say something but no word came out. Kakashi didn't make any move to take, he couldn't believe that a girl at her age would really come out in the middle of the cold night just to give him food and blanket. Besides, he had never seen anyone with pink hair. What if she wasn't a human?
As he made no move, the girl stepped closer and swallowed before saying, "Take it. You look cold and hungry."
'Well, she looks like a real human,' Kakashi thought. He accepted the offer and mumbled a thanks.
