"Hey Pettigrew," She said gently as she approached Peter.
"Hello Granger," He responded, looking out the window. Hermione knew it would take a big leap of faith to convince Peter not to accept the tempting offers of the Death Eaters.
"Can I tell you something?" She hedged. "I don't want you to tell the other Marauders yet, though,"
He face visibly brightened at the prospect of being chosen over his friends, and Hermione hoped she was making the right decision.
"The reason I came to Hogwarts is because I know a version of the future," She said, selecting her words carefully.
"You're a seer?" He said in awe.
"Of sorts, yes. The version of the future I see is what would happen right now, if nothing changed from this point toward," She said "I see how much your friends care for you, and that you all die before Voldemort falls,"
"Merlin," Peter breathed out, his eyes going wide in shock.
"I saw that your friends believed in you, right until the end," She said, exaggerating the truth.
"They do? Why are you telling me this?" He asked, eyes darting back to the fireplace.
"Because you need to give them a reason to believe in you, or the future I saw will come true," She replied.
"I can try," He whispered.
"That's all anyone can ask," She responded, hoping she did the right thing.
"Can you prove it?" He stammered. "That you're a seer, I mean?"
"I know that three of the four Marauders are anamagi, and you take the form of a rat. I know that after your fifth year OWLs, Severus Snape called Lily Evans a mudblood, and I know he stayed outside the Gryffindor Common Room all night, trying to apologize," She said.
With each word, Pettigrew's eyes widened, and at the end, he nodded.
"I believe you," He whispered. She smiled at him, and he gave a hesitant smile back.
"Can you keep that a secret for me?" She asked, filling her face with hope.
"Yeah," Pettigrew said, his expression settling in resolve, "Yeah, I can."
