Ann Arbour, Michigan

Mcdonalds DIning Area

When I get to the McDonalds, there is already someone sitting with Spencer.

They both turn their heads, and I wave a little.

I sit in the empty chair, fidgeting nervously.

" Hey Carmyn, Theodore was just leaving." My best friend, who's clearly annoyed, drops a major hint to the red haired boy.

" I'll definitely be seeing you later, Spencer." His voice rumbles.

She glares at his back as he lumbers away. She clearly doesn't like him.

To be fair, Spencer doesn't like a lot of people.

Danny was the second person she ever opened up to.

I was the first, of course.

Danny became our friend in middle school, when he transferred from a weird private school his parents made him go to.

He never liked it there.

But when he came to Owosso, and started public schooling, he would say he found where he belonged.

He belonged with us.

He was the point we were missing from our triangle, ⅓ of our being.

It feels like a full circle.

" Are you doing ok?" Spencer's voice rings out, interrupting my train of thought.

"Well, what do you think? Do I look ok? Part of my being just died." S

He almost looks hurt by this, which wasn't my intended goal.

"Look, I'm sorry, It's been a rough day. I wasn't prepared for this at all."

She sighs.

" Is anyone ever really prepared?"

We sit in silence for a few minutes, both lost in our own minds.

"I'm going to get some coffee."

For once, the blonde girl sitting across from me doesn't protest.

She instead is just blankly staring at a point behind me.

I order my beverage before returning.

" He's gone." She whimpers.

"Yeah. And I think I know who did it."
