It was five years later that the crying of a child was heard throughout the castle walls of Imadh City. A princess had been born with the same looks as her father, but more of her mother’s personality. It wasn’t too long after that, more like two months, before a baby female pup was born with a black coat and amber eyes. As the years went on, the girl and pup grew up together, becoming each other’s partner and never leaving the other’s side. The princess eventually had a brother, who looked so much like her that it was easy to mistake them for twins. And the king grew older as well, learning much about his own heritage when so long ago he didn’t have one. He was the kind the Winged Ones were looking for, and they found him. He saved them, and became the greatest king in the Winged Ones history.

“Told you we’d be alright,” Regan said to Rohan as she wrapped her arms around him from behind. He stood on the balcony looking over the city, watching the sky as the light faded. Both could hear the distant laughing and barking of a girl and her partner somewhere in the castle.

Rohan nodded. “I know,” he whispered. He turned around and kissed her, wrapping his arms protectively around her, his hands drifting over the black stubs of wings that were once there. He still felt guilty about it, even after ten years.

A distant crash was heard, and the laughing and barking stopped suddenly. Rohan sighed. “We should go see what they broke this time.”

Regan nodded, laughing slightly. “Yeah, let’s just hope that it wasn’t anything valuable.”
