Losing a best friend?

I can feel my heart skip around ten beats. Too startled to respond anything I look at the ground. The desparation is eating me up already. How could I be so naive to put that much trust in someone I do not even know anyways?

A small chuckle from above interrupts my thought process abruptly. I hold my breath waiting for him to speak up again and he does. "Judging your silence you really thought I wasn't kidding just now, eh?" the giggling quickly turned into a wholehearted laugh, so contagious that I started laughing a bit too, "Well, you seem to be someone else after all. So you can't remember anything?" he asks. "Thus far I could only remember a few specific things when I most needed them, which would be you being my best friend here and the fact that this is our hideout. I've seen it being mentioned in our chats when I planned on telling you about what's going on with me." I answer.

"That's... interesting. So basically I lost my best friend?" he announced what I did not dare to mention. However it is unavoidable I guess. "Considering I don't have any memories I assume you just talk to one version of your best friend now. Hmm... Imagine it being her... or wait no- me, but I'm temporarily having amnesia." I eventually resolve. "You do sound a lot like her. Just as smart." him winking and smirking tells me that he is okay with it for now. At least I would have one ally for the time being. Hopefully I could make my way back to my old reality soon.

Nonetheless if I had the chance to talk to him I should inform myself about the kind of relationship we used to have in order to recover as many memories as possible. Consequently I inquire, "Do we meet here regularly?"
"Not as often as you'd think. Lately I've been going through some stuff so we kind of found a reason to meet here again."
"You need a reason to go here?!" something about his statement does not sit right with me. This place looks too heavenly to ever stop visiting... "Well, we have known this spot ever since we were 10 or so. I guess it's easy to forget about stuff like that over the years." he utters. The fact that I saw the tree for the first time may have influenced me to think this would be unforgettable. But humans will get used to anything if you have them live with it long enough.

"How exactly did we first meet?" this may have seemed like an interview but my curiosity got the best of me. I hear a thud. He jumped down the tree and now perches next to me. As if he has to think about it for a while he looks up the sky before he proceeds. "We know each other since kindergarten. It was the day where we could bring our favourite toys. I saw you crying, sitting on a bench on the playground. When I came up to you and asked what happened, you said someone had ripped your stuffed animal so I gave you mine instead. I think you've kept it until now."

"Wow, that was sweet of you... thank you so much." after turning his head to me Waluigi begins laughing. I look at him surprised, "Is it funny?"
"No but the way you said it although it's so far in the past."
"Well I believe it's worth thanking someone for kindness if you haven't done so already. No matter how long it has been and since I have no memories of it I'll have to do it now." I return a smile and perceive his astonished gaze.

"By the way, what kind of occasion led to us meeting here again?" I continue. He scratches his head and slightly grins at the grass underneath us. "I met a girl and vented about her."
"I see..."
"Yeah."
"And what happened between the two of you?" as if I asked him an absurd question he widens his eyes. "Was that a weird question? I thought I knew about it anyways since you vented."
Rapidly he shakes his head and says, "I guess I just didn't expect to be asked that." he stands up. "I started a relationship with this girl about two months ago and it doesn't go so well. She thinks I don't descry the looks she gives other boys or how she dresses up and behaves to catch their attention. She pretends I am not her boyfriend as soon as we are around a group of boys."

"Did you confront her about it?"
"No but I plan on doing so the next time it happens."
"That's probably for the best. Let's hope she'll recognize and changes for the better." he simply nods and I stand up, too as the sky turns red. We watch the sun go down and I cannot help but aver, "I reckon this may sound strange but to be aware of having entered a new reality is pretty cool. The fact that I was able to get to know you brought that change into my life I always wished to experience. I just wanted to say that because who knows? I could wake up in my old reality any day." without waiting for an answer I walk back home.
