Chapter 9

*the next morning*

*beatstar and alberto slept until giulia burst her bedroom window mimicking a bugle wake-up call open causing beatstar to yelp in surprise and fall off the treehouse*

Giulia: Whoops! sorry beatstar! didn't mean to frighten you

Beatstar: Don't worry i'm alright!

*but then after a few days of training alberto began to notice something different going on with beatstar, she was a bit slow, slightly lethargic and looked kind of depressed, which at first didn't seem to worry him but as training continued she stopped acting like the beatstar he knew and she looked extremely depressed and it really worried him so he decided to confront her about it when she and him were alone*

*one night*

Beatstar: Okay...we did our training...*sighs* i'm beat!

Alberto: Uhm...beatstar?

Beatstar: Hm?

Alberto: There's something that's kinda worrying me a bit

Beatstar: what is it?

Alberto: Well it's- uh...well, i'll take you on a walk and i'll tell you

Beatstar: Okay?

*alberto and beatstar hopped off the treehouse and headed to an alley*

Beatstar: so what did you want to talk to me about?

Alberto: Well i noticed you...really haven't been quite as energetic as you usually were

Beatstar: and?...

Alberto: I wanna know what going on

Beatstar: *sighs* okay it's just that...the more time we spend together...the more heartbreak it's gonna cause for me when we have to go our separate ways when i get home

*alberto's eyes slightly widened, he never thought about what would happen if they went their separate ways*

Alberto: is that why you were depressed? because you thought we would never get see each other again?

*beatstar nods slowly*

Beatstar: and there's something i...*sighs* wanted to ask...if you could...would you *inhales sharply before turning her head away in shame* forget it

Alberto: no no tell me, tell me what it is...

Beatstar: *looks at alberto* would you...want to come with me?

*alberto noticed that she got really quiet when she said that and he wanted to say 'no' right then and there, but he didn't want to upset her by telling her he didn't want to go with her so he decided to go easy on her*

Alberto: *sighs* beatstar as much as i would love to do that...i can't go with you

Beatstar: W- what?

Alberto: I mean don't get me wrong i DO want to go with you but i can't, what would you think would happen if your brother saw you with me?

Beatstar:...

*then after a moment of silence a harpoon nearly hit them but they dodged it and they looked at the direction where it was thrown*

Ercole: Hey, look who it is and with no Giulia to hide behind

Beatstar: *gasps in fear* alberto...

Alberto: Beatstar get behind me

*alberto puts his arm in front of beatstar to block her from ercole while beatstar cowers behind him*

Ercole: Something's fishy with you two, i mean besides the smell

*ercole's lackeys laugh*

Ercole: You're hiding something

Alberto (slightly nervous): *slightly backing away with beatstar behind him* i- is it that we're smarter than you? i mean we're not really hiding that, it's just kind of obvious 

Ercole: You know, people think I'm a nice guy, always joking around

*suddenly ercole's lackeys pin alberto's arms to the wall while also pulling beatstar away from him*

Ercole: But really, I'm not

Beatstar: Hey leave him alone! *tries to approach ercole*

Ercole: *pushes beatstar back forcefully making her fall backwards* wait your turn piccolina

Ercole: *turns to face alberto* I want to make myself very clear; This is my town, number one 

Ercole: and number two *punches alberto in the gut* I don't want you in it

Beatstar: *shakily holds the harpoon up at him* I said leave him alone!

Ercole: Put that down piccolina, you'll hurt yourself

Beatstar: *glares at ercole* MAKE ME!

*Suddenly ercole grabs her by the back of her shirt, making beatstar drop the harpoon and lifts her up so she is facing him*

Ercole: You think you scare me piccolina?

Alberto: Hey! leave her alone! i'm the one you want, not her!

Ercole: Quiet down i am talking to her!

Ercole: *turns to face beatstar* now you may think that i am afraid of you but i know you're afraid of ME! don't think i couldn't hear your pathetic little whimpers or see you hiding behind your little friend or your trembling, now i want to make myself very VERY clear to YOU, you don't and never will belong here so why don't you go crawling back to where you came from you pathetic, stupid, little...MUTT

*that word hit beatstar hard, her eyes teared up in an instant and and she was trembling not with fear...but with sadness, with that he threw her to the ground and she ran away sobbing*

*upon seeing beatstar run away upset and saddened by ercole's harsh words he broke free of ciccio and guido's grip and glares at ercole*

Alberto: listen here ercole you have made a huge mistake upsetting her like that, you'll regret this big time

*alberto runs off to find beatstar*

Ercole: Fine! but try as you might but nobody wants you or your friend here! Keep running!

*as soon as alberto got back to giulia's house*

Alberto: Beatstar? are you up here- *hears beatstar's whimpering and sobbing* hey

*Beatstar faces him with her tear filled eyes*

Alberto: beatstar...why did you get so upset when ercole called you a mutt?

Beatstar (tearfully): Because...He's right!

Alberto: What?

Beatstar (sobbing): he was right, i'm a mutt and that's all i'm ever gonna be *whimpers*

Alberto (softly): shh shh shh *slightly lifts her chin up with his fingers so she'd look him in his eyes* calm down, don't cry...*wipes her tears away with his thumb* look beatstar, ercole might see you as a mutt, but in my eyes...i don't see that at all

*beatstar smiles softly while letting out quiet, shaky breaths*

Beatstar (sniffling): Th- thank you 'berto...

*alberto pulls her close to his chest and rests his head atop of her's while rubbing her back*

Alberto: Now just get some rest...

*soon beatstar and alberto fall asleep*
