1st Person POV

I had never ice skated until today, or at least that I remember anyway. It was December twenty-third, only a few days away from Christmas, and I was being taken out of a date. For the first ten or fifteen minutes, I was doing my best not to slip on the ice...and failing miserably. Right as I was about to lose balance again, a hand grabbed my waist and held me firmly.

"Careful," Eric said softly, his other hand intertwining with mine. A small wave of excitement washed through me, feeling his gentle touch.

We had been dating for only a few weeks and this was our fourth official date. We've known each other because we go to the same college, but I hadn't actually met him until a couple of months ago. He was a business major and I had taken a business elective class so we met at the start of the semester. I knew about him since he was on the college's baseball team but, me not being a big sports fan, I wasn't in any of the same circles he was in. We ended up pairing together for a group project and then we got to know each other. He was really sweet and funny, not to mention good-looking. Eventually he asked me out on a date.

"I'll try to be," I replied, a light blush appearing on my cheeks. He smiled, pulling me along with him. He was much more graceful than I was. While he appeared as a beautiful swan...I was over here looking like an uncoordinated elephant struggling to stand.

As if reading my thoughts, Eric tightened his grip on my hand, "Don't worry, if you fall I'll be here to catch you."

I sheepishly thanked him before we continued to skate round the ring. I improved a little as we went along but I definitely wasn't a pro by the time we decided to call it quits and move on to another activity.

Next, we went to my apartment to bake cookies. We planned to watch a movie or something afterward. When we got there, he politely took his shoes off and hung his coat on the coat rack. He was quick to assist me with my own coat, making him all the more a gentleman. I enjoyed the little things he would do throughout the day to help me or make me happy. Those meant a lot to me so I did my best to do them whenever I could as well.

"What kind of cookies should we make?" he asked, making his way into the kitchen to gather the ingredients.

I shrugged, "It doesn't matter to me. If you want to make a specific cookie then we can do that. Or we might just be discussing it for the next twenty minutes."

Laughing, he rummaged through a drawer and pulled out the baking book I had. He flipped to a page before holding it up so I could see, "We should just make some sugar cookies so then we can decorate them. You can't go wrong with sugar cookies."

I nodded, "Sounds good. I'm gonna run to my room for a minute to freshen up."

Turning, I headed for my room to change into a hoodie and some more comfortable pants. Once I felt better, I went back to the kitchen to find that Eric had already set out the ingredients and measuring tools.

I grinned, "This is going to be fun."

He looked up, "It is. Oh, here," he pulled a hair tie off of his wrist, "Come here. Let me put your hair out of the way."

My heart did a small flip in my chest as I came over to him. His hands reached for my hair, gently pulling it into a ponytail. I could only imagine the soft look on his face that he made when he did these kinds of things. He was so kind and thoughtful.

"Alright, beautiful," he pulled away, beaming. "Let's make some sugar cookies!"

Together, we started putting the ingredients into a bowl. I made such a mess on the table by spilling the flour that he had to mix the ingredients while I cleaned up. After a few minutes I heard him let out a small frustrated grunt. I turned around to see him struggling to avoid making another mess.

"I'm a baseball player and a business major, not a cooker!" he explained, trying to battle with the bowl he was currently holding.

I snorted, "Here, let me."

Taking the bowl from him, I finished mixing. Then we rolled out the dough, using cookie cutters to shape them. We had snowmen, stars, snowflakes, mittens, and other winter themed figures and shapes.

"Okay, I'm setting a timer so we don't burn them," Eric stated, fiddling with his phone before placing it on the kitchen counter. "In the meantime..." he smirked, stepping close to me and wrapping his hands around my waist.

I buried my face in his chest, feeling his warmth. I loved his hugs, and they were probably one of my most favorite things in the world. I felt him rest his head on top of mine, planting a kiss. I let out a content sigh, relishing in the wonderful feeling of having him close to me.

At that moment, I realized how grateful I was to have him this Christmas. He was someone that made the holiday even more special than it already was. And I was happy that he was here. With me.
