"It matters, you were in the wrong. So I think you should own up to it and apologize for wrong doing me." He's serious!
"I wouldn't put it that way, but sure. Whatever." I shrug. He gives me a knowing look.
"Alright, if it means that much to you. I...-
won't accuse you next time." I said. I can't believe he wants to waste my time with this nonsense? He sighed.
"Close enough." He mumbled. "It's a nice necklace." He said aloud.
"Isn't it? I still can't believe he bought something like this?"
"Neither can I." His tone was sour?
"What?"
"Hmm?"
"What is it? There's something you want to say, right?"
"I just thought after he blew you off like that you wouldn't forgive him so easily."
"Why would I be mad? Because he didn't want to talk to me? I'm not five years old." I laugh.
"Is that what he said?"
"He didn't say anything?" I eye him suspiciously. "Just what is your point?"
"You shouldn't let him get off so easily, he'll only do that again or worse. You should let him know that he can't treat you that way."
"Tsk, you make it seem like a big deal. He was talking with a girl. I completely understand."
"That's my point! You should come first!"
"What does the necklace have to do with it anyway? You're just insecure about the present because it's something you can't afford. Cause you feel outdone." Now he was looking at me ridiculously.
"Wow, I don't even know how to answer that." He said shaking his head wearing a strained smile. What does he mean by that! He walked off leaving me stunned. Well...He's the one who said to stand up for myself and other nonsense! Like I don't have the strength or knowledge to do so! I know when I'm being wronged!
"Time for cake!" Mother called out. Everyone regathered and got a slice of cake. Mother glanced at my necklace, but didn't say a word. The more I spewed with my thoughts, the angrier I became with Gabriel. I couldn't even enjoy my cake, because I couldn't stop thinking of our argument! I stabbed and dragged my fork at the cake. The atmosphere was tense again, this time it was my doing. I didn't care, I forced myself to eat bit by bit. I even tuned out everyone's conversations, they just seemed meaningless. This party is meaningless...After I finished with my cake, I went to check on Xavier. I took him out of the kennel, wishfully thinking he would go after Gabriel. But he didn't, I sighed. Even he can sense my troubled mind. He sat with me on the couch and cuddled up to me.
"It's all his fault." I spat out loud. Xavier growled as if he agreed with me. "And you did try to warn me." He whimpered in response and nuzzled closer. "And I didn't listen."
"Grrr..."
"I know, I know. I should've never doubted you."
"Grrr!" He's really angry huh?
"Xavier, what more do you want me to say?"
"Grrr!" He jumped off my lap and barked at the door. "Ruff, ruff! Ruff!" The bark was a harsh and deep one. A knock came at the door, making Xavier get more anxious. Mother came to answer it, walking cautiously. We didn't invite anyone else? I held back Xavier and put him in the kennel. "We don't want another incident!" As Mother would say. Police came barging through the door! And came after me! Xavier barked loud and viciously.
"C-can I help you?"
"Where did you get that necklace!"
"It was a present!" I stammered.
"Urgh! Let go of me!" Ethan was shoved into the living room.
"Here he is, he matches the description from the witness."
"What are you talking about! This is a mistake!" He yelled.
"What on earth! Is going on!" Mother demanded.
"I'm sorry to disrupt your party ma'am, but yesterday a ruby necklace that was worth one million dollars was stolen!" I closed my eyes feeling my blood simmer and boil. "The camera caught the car and license plates that were traced back to here!" Ethan's parents were shaking their heads and cursing under their breath.
"Let me guess, this is the reported necklace." I held it up and handed it to them.
"Yes." They grabbed their coats and said they would meet them at the station.
"I paid for it! You can see my receipt! It's in the box! Natalie get the box!" He has the audacity? To keep going!
"Natalie! Come on! You really think I?-"
"I should've known! I should've known! What made you think that stealing a necklace was a good idea! And gifting it to me! We're not living in the 1800's! You could've bought a cheaper one! Or, or! Get someone to buy it for you! Or get a job! For once you could've- You could've made an effort to do something for someone else, but yourself!"
"I-"
"But no! It has to be an easy way! Because it's easier and better for you in the long run!" He didn't say anything back after that. The police started pulling him out the door. As I stood there not saying a thing or justifying this big ass lie! Mother silently panicked thinking of a way to continue the party. Well, at least I didn't ruin her reputation this time. Mother decided to gossip and play off the scenario. I couldn't have cared less, secretly I wished they would've left. I just wanted this party to end. Kyra couldn't help but slither her way over by me. I really wasn't in the mood.
"You turned him away just like that." She laughed.
"I've never seen him so shocked." Jasper added. Kyra nudged me.
"He was so cocky, thinking that you wouldn't turn your back on him. He was so sure too!" She mocked.
"Don't you guys get tired of hearing yourselves?" They stopped laughing and looked at me. "Why don't you bother someone else who gives a shit." Kyra couldn't help but smirk.
