THIRD PERSON POV

Banglore

"Priorities. To be successful one must learn to prioritise what's important. Like how your daughter is doing " Pragya says. She scrolls through her phone, watching reels which eating choco chip cookies made her her father.

"Stop giving me gyaan and wasting time. Start cleaning the table Pragya"  Sarla, Pragya's mother hits her arm tired of her daughter's antics.

"Ow mumma, that hurts. Tch" Pragya pouts as she gets up from the table she was sitting on.

Sarla takes the cover of chocolate chip cookies from Pragya, more like snatches, Pragya thinks but doesn't say it out loud.

"Always dreaming. Hamesha bas khana ya Sona ya gaana. Do some work now" Sarla says, as she moves to clean a few tables.

Pragya looks around the hotel. Their hotel. The Krishna Sagar Hotel. It's not too busy or too idle. She would say the family business is going steady.

Pragya's father, Satish, has been running this hotel two years after the couple was married. She was born two years later. As far as she can recall, her father though tired everyday, loves his job.

She cleans the table, serves a few customers, then gives bills and collects the money.

That's her job at their hotel. She finishes this, her father gives her cookies he bakes.

This was how she spent her childhood too. Their house was and still is two blocks away from the hotel. She recalls how she would run towards the hotel after her school bus dropped her home. She would help her father, run along with her mother to serve the customers, help collect the bills. She has a good childhood given by her parents.

Her most memorable day would be her fifth birthday party. Her father baked cookies for the first time, taught her to do so too. That's how it became her favourite.

"Pragya take those the last table" She hears her father's call and jumps off the table to rush to the kitchen.

She serves to the customers, some who are regular ask her when she's leaving. That they'll miss her too.

That reminds her of night when she received news that she was accepted for the training program in the We Care Teaching Hospital.

She was on cloud nine, still is, but she didn't want to leave home, as she thought she wouldn't be accepted and this was merely a try. But her father, sat her down, told her not to leave such an opportunity.

So she decided that she will go and make herself and her parents happy. She knows psychology is not an easy field, none of the medical fields are, but she considers herself smart. So why not try.

This clumsy geek can do this.

.....

"Mumma go sit down I'll clean the rest" Pragya says.

They came back home and hour early because she has a flight to catch.

She told her parents to rest, that she'll cook dinner. She prepares roti and aloo mutter sabzi. She knows how to cook from experience but everytime, without fail either gets hurt, like small ones, or does something clumsy.
