"Lia! Hurry up, you'll be late for school!" My roommate shouted.

"Almost done!" I replied. I had just finished my makeup and was now looking at myself in the mirror to make sure nothing was out of place. I walked to my closet, picked out a pair of black ankle boots to go with my black ripped jeans and a dark pink sweater, then picked up my mother's necklace while heading out the door with my roommate.

She sighed. "Jesus, Lia. You NEVER miss school. Hell, you're always the first one awake! So, why all of the sudden did you miss your alarm and decide to stay in bed?"

Because I was having nightmares again. Because I decided to stay awake to keep them away. I couldn't tell her that, so I shrugged in response. "I'm not much of a morning person, even though I'm the first one up. You know this, Nora."

She stared at me before bursting into laughter and shaking her head. Phew, she bought it. Nora strolled ahead, walking towards the academic buildings on campus. The school I attend is called Forsyth Heights University in Massachusetts, which is named after James Forsyth, the founder of the college in the early 1900's. The campus was beautiful. It had a nice forest scenery to the west of the campus and a lake right behind the buildings. The main gates and main offices building had a fountain right between them, and the water looked as clear as day when you gazed at it. The best part about this school is that there's always some sort of school-wide event twice every year to bring people together. I've always been a people person so that's always a great chance to meet new friends. That's how Nora and I met freshman year, actually. She and I clicked with each other right away, and asked to be roomed together. Now, two years later in my junior year, we still live together and are practically sisters at this point. I don't think she and I could ever be separated even if we tried.

I caught up to Nora just as she headed into the lecture for our Creative Writing class. Yep, I'm an English major. All I do is constantly read and create short stories for my own enjoyment, which is what drove me to this major in the first place. Our professor was one of the sweetest ladies I've ever met in my life and to be honest, she was like the mother I never had. She is understanding, kind, cares for her students the way a mother would, but still has a stern teaching style to help us flourish and bring out our potential.

Students started filing in quickly and taking their seats in the lecture hall just as the professor walked in, standing up front behind the desk. "Alright students, today's assignment is simple. After the lecture, you're going to choose a place, a year, and write about it. You can choose to go to that specific place as well to help make your assignment much more authentic if you want. You will write about what types of literature works it had in that year, write about the place and its culture in literature, if the literature still exists today, what makes the style different from today and so forth. Write anything and everything about your topic. This will be considered a first exam and will be graded harshly. This does not need to be said, and goes without saying, but do not plagiarize any works. That will result in legal action and dropping this class."
