Lisa rang

Jennie can feel moist against the skin of her hands inside the white surgical gloves she's using while operating on a man's heart. It's a major one, an open heart surgery, and she has to have her sharp focus on the matter. Luckily though, she's almost 5 hours in and will finish in about an hour.

Still, a long way to go, but if you look at the bigger picture, it's better than thinking about the first minutes into the operation with what seems like endless hours of work to go.

However, a circulating nurse from a distance suddenly asked for her attention amid silence in the dark operating room. The nurse's voice is gentle with the undertone of beeping apparatuses.

"Call from 'Manobal'." the nurse informed her with his voice muffled beneath his surgical mask before showing her the screen of her iPhone, the word Manobal<3 on the front.

She disregards it, for now. Jennie has something else that needs her attention more. She's trying to sew a graft to the man's coronary artery.

When at last she was able to make sure that she's done her job alright, Jennie looks at the nurse again who was at the corner side patiently waiting for her, her phone still in his hands.

"Thank you," Jennie murmured to the circulating nurse and signaled a scrub nurse to help her take off her surgical gloves. Jennie eyes the intern they have with them and lets him continue the minor procedures left to do. She's still supervising, but she has to distance herself for a while to take Lisa's call.

She forgot to inform her wife about this second surgery she has to perform, not to mention the surgical intern she has to supervise. The changes on her schedule were all last minute. It has been more than 24 hours since she was home, and 12 hours since the last text she sent Lisa.

And Jennie has to take this call. But it went off right before she could tap the answer button. So Jennie immediately went back to work, setting aside the thought of Lisa at the moment.

The surgery was a success, and Jennie is taking her very much-needed break.

Later on, after getting a snack from a vending machine, she sees Jisoo's figure standing before the front desk of the hospital lobby with someone else that is overly familiar to Jennie.

Jennie squints her eyes and she's able to confirm Rosé's presence. She feels spent but upon seeing her friends, Jennie feels a bit lighter.

Jisoo is Lisa's co-worker at the university her wife is working at and Rosé, Jisoo's girlfriend, works in a supervisor position at an international company. They've been friends with them since Lisa introduced Jisoo to her as a college friend when the latter was in her fourth year. Jennie remembers exactly that time when she was a fresh graduate from med school and was just starting her first year of being an intern and already exhausted.

Fortunately, Jennie was already financially stable during those times, so there wasn't a lot of pressure.

She was basically Lisa's sugar mom. Irrelevant.

Jennie waves her hand that is not holding a snack to get their attention. It caught Rosé's first as Jisoo is still talking to a nurse at the desk.

"Oh my god, there you are doctor!" Rosé greeted her with a bear hug in her very Aussie accent.

"OhmygodRoseanneletgoI'mnot yet — sterile! I haven't changed my clothes yet!" Jennie pushes herself away from the blonde, half laughing, half scolding.

"Hello, doctor!" Jisoo greeted after while Rosé laughs at Jennie's scrunched-up face. Both reacted because of Rosé's equally overexcited bearing it could potentially harm herself and the nickname they always use on Jennie as a form of a very immature teasing; 'doctor'. Because she is technically one, but they obviously want to use it a lot more than necessary.

"How are you?" Rosé asked, still smiling while checking Jennie's overall state.

"You look... like you could use some rest, dear." she continues using her Aussie accent and nods to herself, making an agreement on behalf of Jennie.

"Ugh, I know. You don't have to mention it. — And clean yourself, Roseanne. You hugged me and I just came from a surgical operation." Jennie reminded her, Jisoo casually listening to them before saying something.

"Oh before we forgot, Lisa wanted me to give you this." Jisoo handed her a paper bag.

"A... coat?" Jennie asked curiously, more to herself than anyone. Then she looks up at the floor-to-ceiling glass window of the hospital just in time for Jisoo to tell her what it's for.

"It started snowing. Hours ago."

A nurse walking to the front desk spots Jennie and calls her attention, signals her to wait as she calls her co-nurse stationed at the desk, and asks her something before the latter hands her a paper bag then she turns to walk towards Jennie's direction.

The nurse greets Jisoo and Rosé first before giving her attention to Jennie and informs her about the message sent to the hospital's line meant for her.

"The message was already forwarded, Doctor. Here's a report of your patient in room 237 by the way. Nurse Song just had to put her signature before submitting it to you." The nurse handed her pieces of paper before bowing and turning back to her initial destination at the front desk.

Jennie reads the message first, with Rosé already looking over her shoulder to take a glimpse.

"It's not private, right?" Rosé tried to reason when Jennie gives her a look. "Besides, she sent it on a public line," she added.

Jennie only gives her a soft laugh.

"Doctor, your wife rang. She says to wear a coat if you go outside because it's snowing :)"

"Aww, they're cute! I would put them in a boat." Rosé commented, amusement and adoration on her face.

Jisoo clicks her tongue as she lets out a soft chuckle, "You mean you ship them?"

Rosé gives her a shrug while Jennie smiles at herself, mentally noting to text Lisa back.
