Prompt 18: free (mistletoe)

--

As soon as Logan opened the door to the apartment he heard running footsteps and by the time he had stepped inside and closed the door behind him Roman was coming to a stop right in front of him, standing so close that Logan had to take a step back.

"Hello my darling, welcome home." He said, smiling in a way that gave Logan the distinct feeling that his boyfriend was up to something.

"Hello love, is anyone else home?" He wondered, setting his backpack down and beginning to unzip his jacket.

"Nope, Patton just headed to the store and Virgil's on his way home." Roman said, smiling wider and glancing upward very quickly. Logan couldn't help looking up too.

"Ah, I see you have started with the Christmas decorating." Logan stated, noticing the little green plant taped to the doorway he was standing by.

"Just a little, Patton found mistletoe and we simply couldn't help ourselves." Roman said with a small shrug.

"Naturally." Logan said, giving in and, as Roman so obviously was waiting for him to, leaning in to give Roman a kiss.

"There, can I come inside properly now?" Logan wondered and Roman happily took a step back.

"Thank you!" He said, then walked back into the kitchen where he had come running from. Logan shook his head, though there was no denying that he was smiling.

He hung his jacket up by the other jackets and took his shoes off, placing them neatly out of the way. Then he took his laptop and the charger out of his backpack, plus two textbooks, and stepped over Roman's shoes as he went to the living room.

He seated himself on the couch, plugging the charger into the nearest outlet and then into the laptop, leaning back and flipping through the pages of his textbook to find the chapter they were currently on. It was time for exams in a while and even if Logan was certain he would do well he still wanted to study a little.

He started taking notes, summarizing the important information in the chapter and then beginning to answer the practice questions that their professor had handed out. After fifteen minutes Roman seated himself next to him, making him look up from the page he had been reading.

"Yes?" He wondered, somewhat distracted by trying to form an answer to the question he was on.

"Tea? It's the green one you like." Roman said, holding up a cup and offering it to Logan. He took it thankfully, feeling as if his chest was near bursting with fondness.

"Thank you." He said and Roman sent him a blinding smile.

"Look up." Roman said and Logan complied before even thinking about it. He was not surprised in the least to find another bit of mistletoe taped to the ceiling.

He cupped Roman's jaw with his free hand, pulling him in for a gentle and slightly more lingering kiss than their last. Then he went back to studying, sipping his tea while tapping at his keyboard, Roman having disappeared somewhere else again.

Logan studied for another hour, during which Virgil got home (it was the sound of the front door being unlocked that made Logan realize it was about time he took a break), and from what Logan could hear he also got cornered under the mistletoe by the front door.

He saved his document and closed down his study tabs, putting his textbooks on the living room table in front of him. Virgil entered the living room a moment later, wrapped in one of his blankets.

"Hey, L." He greeted, plopping down on the couch and glancing at Logan's laptop to see what youtube video it was he was in the middle of. Seeing as it was a video explaining part of what Logan was studying Virgil didn't think it seemed very interesting.

"Hello starlight." Logan said, closing the youtube window down, his laptop instead displaying the random question that had popped into his mind at midnight the night before.

"I think you owe me a kiss." Logan said and Virgil looked mildly confused for only a second before looking up.

"Oh for- Roman's already managed to get me under a mistletoe twice and I've only been home five minutes." Virgil complained, though he didn't hesitate to lean in and let his lips softly brush against Logan's.

"There's one by the doorway to our bedroom, by the way." Virgil warned with a fond little shake of his head.

"Good to know." Logan closed his laptop, looking over at Virgil who was happily curling up with his blanket, reaching for the book he was reading that had been left on the coffee table since the day before. Logan moved aside his laptop, taking his empty cup and walking to the kitchen, rinsing it under the tap before putting it in the dishwasher.

Unsurprisingly he turned around to once again find Roman right by him and Roman didn't need to point upwards for Logan to know a little green plant was hanging above their heads.

"You know you could simply ask us for a kiss whenever you want one?" Logan said, thinking that that would surely be easier as it was very rare that any one of them declined the offer to kiss Roman.

"Logan! Where is your Christmas spirit?" Roman tutted with faked offense, shaking his head, then kissing Logan's forehead and his nose before returning to their bedroom where he seemed to be sorting through a basket of clean laundry from what Logan could see from the kitchen.

Logan heeded Virgil's earlier words and didn't stick his head into their bedroom to look closer, instead staying in the kitchen and putting away the dirty dishes in the sink into their dishwasher. Then he heard the sound of their door opening and closing again, and the sound of grocery bags being set down on the hallway floor.

"I'm home." Patton called and Logan chucked quietly as he saw Roman almost tripping over his own feet in his eagerness to catch Patton under the front door mistletoe too. He heard Patton giggle and a few moments later Roman and Patton were carrying two bags of groceries into the kitchen.

Logan, who had looked up and noted the four mistletoes in the kitchen (one by the sink, one by the fridge, one in the doorway, one by the stove) went over to help Patton rummaging through a grocery bag to find all the items that should go in the fridge.

"Hello there sweetie." Logan said, watching Patton light up with excitement as he realized they were both under a mistletoe.

"Hi!" He said, placing two cartons of milk onto a shelf in the fridge before grabbing Logan and pulling him in for an enthusiastic kiss.

"Do you like our decorations?" He wondered, looking over at Roman and the two of them grinned widely at each other.

"They're very nice." He promised, wondering how many pieces of mistletoe had really been hung up in their apartment. Surely more than what anyone would consider enough.

Virgil walked into the kitchen, still reading his book, but putting it down to give Roman a look.

"What's the point of the mistletoe above the sink in the bathroom?" He wondered.

"For when we brush our teeth! We all crowd under just that spot, and you'll get a minty fresh kiss too." Patton explained and Virgil made a noise that was a mix between a scoff and a laugh.

"You're so weird." He said with a very noticeably loving tone of voice and Patton grinned as if that was the best compliment Virgil could have given him.

Then he hurried over to where Virgil was standing in the doorway before Virgil had the time to realize he was under yet another mistletoe. He gave Virgil a gentle kiss that he happily returned.

It didn't take the four of them long to unpack the groceries, though it took them longer than usual since they kept finding themselves under one of the mistletoes in the kitchen, and Roman and Patton looked just as smugly happy with themselves each time, as if they had managed to trick the others into giving them exactly what they wanted.

Logan didn't entirely understand the point of kissing under a mistletoe (and he definitely had to research where the tradition came from), but he had to admit that it was kind of fun, especially as Roman and Patton looked so happy each time they found themselves under a mistletoe with either of the other three.
