A Change

It was 1:27 in the morning and I, Zerri, laid down on my cot staring at the ceiling.  The workers were just getting up to start the day, but not me. I laid there very still and waited. I waited for at least 5 minutes, then it happened. I heard a knock on the air vent next to my cot. I looked around to make sure all the workers left the basement before I got ready.

My friend, Jasmine, continued to knock on the air vent as I got changed into my work uniform. I tapped my foot on the hard wood floor, giving her the signel that I'm here. The knocking stopped stopped for a bit, but then she knocked again using a different rhythm.

I was going to risk it and talk to her but one of the maids walked in and glared at me. Slowly, she walked up towards me and analyzed me very closely. I started to get slightly worried, but I showed no emotion so she could go away quicker.

"Zerri, why are you still in here?" Said the Maid, glaring at me. I didn't say anything, I didn't have to. Annoyed, she smacked me on the head with her duster. "Answer." She hissed.

"Weq said he was going to do training with me at 2:00." I replied shakily.

Weq is my trainer. He trains me to be a good butler for the King and Queen. My training usually consist of balencing and speed. Since I will only be a D class butler, I won't learn everything the A class butlers learn.

"Well, tell Weq that he should make you do something productive while you wait for the training to start." Said the Maid.

"Yes ma'am." I say annoyed

The Maid grunted and pouted away back out the door.

I giggle a tad bit then realized that Jasmine was still in the air vent. I walk over to the big table and glance at the left-overs that the maids and butlers left behind. All of the butlers and maids eat down here in the basement. Strange if you ask me, but that was besides the point. I found a loaf of bread that was left untouched. Quickly, I walk back to my cot.

"You must be really hungry if you wish to eat the entire loaf of bread." Said a voice behind me. I jump and quickly turn around to see Weq staring at me with a smile. He moved he blonde hair out of his eyes to get a good look at me. "What are you doing in your uniform?" He asked.

"You said we were doing training today, sir." I replied. Weq went up to me and gave me a great big pat on the head.

"So I did." He said with a laugh. "Today we are doing a different type of training." He gave me a playful shove and walked to the door. "Change into something presentable." Then, he left.

Something different? I wonder why?

I will think about this later, but for now I have to give this loaf to Jasmine. I crouched down and unscrewed the air vent. I handed her the loaf of bread and a glass of water that stood beside my cot. She smiled at me and then crawled away.

Jasmine is a good person. Her family died in a war and she had nowhere to go. I was outside training when I saw her stealing food from the garden. I felt bad so I told her I would bring her food. The downside was that she had to crawl through the ventilation system.

I closed the vent and tried to put the screws back in. After putting the screws were back in, I grabbed a pile of different clothes and changed into them. I put on a black dress shirt and a pair of cargo pants. It was good enough, besides, I don't have many clothes anyway.

I left the basement and looked around for where Weq could be. He might be in the garden waiting for me.

I wonder why he wanted to change my training all of a sudden.

He seemed very happy when he came in the basement. Maybe he might teach me something thats considered C class. I soon started to think about all the possibilities that could happen.

While I was thinking about my new training, I bump into someone. I pause all my thoughts and look at who I bumped into. I gasp and stare at them. It was the prince.

"I'm so so so sorry your majesty!" I say bowing down immediately. My heart was racing. I just bumped into our kingdoms future king!

The prince look at me a said nothing. He put his hand under my chin and lifted my head up. The prince stared into my eyes and put his other hand on the back of my head.

I turned red. I don't know why or how. I looked away from the prince, but he made me face him again. He moved his hand from my chin and to my cheek.

"Are you alright? You're burning hot." He said not breaking his stare. I was speechless.

" I-I..." I tried to speak, but I just couldn't. It was like someone glued my mouth shut. The prince glances at his watch and then back at me.

"It seems that I have to leave. I am going to watch the new knight start his first day of training." He said lifting his hands off of me. I just nod and start to walk away. But before I could, the prince puts his hand on my shoulder. "I hope to see you again." He said before he walked away aswell.

I was stunned. The prince actually spoke to me. He touched me. He said he hopes he see's me again! I have never felt so...so... Happy? No no thats not the word. Glad? No, thats not it either. I don't know what I'm feeling.

I placed my hand where he placed his. I woke up feeling crappy, but now.. Now I feel like a whole new person. My heart won't stop racing and jumping around.

I look down and notice that he dropped a book. I pick it up and hold it dearly to me. I looked at the cover and laughed a tad bit.

The Legand of Rekburd

A childrens tale. It is a good book, but I didn't expect the prince to read fantasy books. He had a good taste in the art of literature.

I smiled and started to head towards the garden to meet Weq. I can't wait to tell him what happened between me and the prince.

I walked out to the garden and I saw Weq standing there. But there was someone next to him. My face turned red as I stared at the person. It was the prince.
