Chapter 1

*The Beginning*

Well, it all started with... Hm. I wonder how I will start this thing. I cannot tell the name of the character. No, not yet. The story has yet to end before her name will be revealed. But I know I have to give her a name, or else it would be hard on you to distinguish which character is which.

I have an idea. Since the story is about a cat, why don't we give the main character a name that begins with cat? Like Cat...nip? How about that?

Well Catnip, suddenly woke up in a room -- a messy and dusty old room filled with garbage, garbage, and nothing but garbage. The paint needed a new coating. The sofa was dangerously sharp like a newly forged sword. Catnip's head hurt very much. It was like a very big and heavy iron hammer has hit it very hard. She was also sweating profusely, like she just woke up from a very terrifying nightmare, but of what? Catnip cannot remember anything -- why she was here in this bed, what she was doing here, or who she was. Catni --.

Wait. Can we change her name? I really can't take her name seriously because it's so disturbing and awkward. How about Katniss? The name seems familiar, a vegetable or something maybe. I think it will do.

Katniss jumped out of the bed and tried to look for something to wipe her sweat in but, by the looks of this room, she had a feeling that she won't find anything. She clearly didn't want to wipe her face with a towel that probably had been a nest for spiders and roaches. She immediately looked at her surroundings and felt weird -- a sudden compulsion to arrange the room. She felt that her eye was twitching as she saw the wreck in the room she was sleeping in. In a matter of seconds, she began arranging the furniture, throwing the garbage, dusting every nook and cranny and sweeping every inch of the dirty floor.

Her hands seen to move involuntarily as she tries to force herself to remember who she was. But it was to on avail. All it's done is giving her a really serious headache.

After she's done cleaning and rearranging the room, Katniss decided to look around the house. Perhaps it can make me remember something, she thought.

The house is not too big but it had two floors. As Katniss went out of the room, she saw another messy and dusty hallway -- lined with cobwebs, filled with rats scurrying and biting on a piece of cheese. How the cheese got there, she had on idea and again she has this strange OC to clean the whole place.

"Not yet." she thought, "Exploring the house is more important." With a goal in her mind, she opened the door adjacent to the room she woke up in. It was there she found a clean and orderly room -- no clutter and not a single thing was out of place. She went inside and immediately saw a picture on a desk that caught her attention.

The girl in the picture was the first thing she noticed. Katniss saw that the girl was smiling gleefully and she looked very happy, like she doesn't have a single care in this world. Her chocolate brown hair were styled in beautiful curls. Her eyes were as green as the sea. Next to her was a guy who wrapped his arms around the girl. The guy had fluffy black hair that looked really good with his blue-violet eyes. His eyes were so calming and inviting and oh so familiar. Katniss felt that she had seen this guy before, she was sure of it. She just can't remember... Heck, that's a strange notion. She can't even remember her own name!

She placed the picture back on the little wooden desk where she picked it up. Quite suddenly, she saw herself in a big oval mirror with a white frame. As she took a closer look, realization dawned upon her -- the girl in the picture was her!

How could this be? That guy... who?

Just when she felt like she was about to remember something, Katniss heard the sound of nails scratching the floor.

"Meow!" a black and white creature appeared suddenly out of nowhere.

Katniss jumped and her heart leapt up to her throat as she heard the sound. She turned around and grimaced at what she saw: It was a really ugly creature. Patches of black and white were placed indiscriminately and almost with no pattern at all. Its eyes had a long ugly scar. Its body had a wound that seems like it had been recently made because it was just healing up. The poor sight of the cat made her stomach churn. Katniss knew she was very fond of cats -- all animals to be exact. Yet, there was something in this particular one that made her fear it. It was a really unsettling feeling and she hated it.

Katniss went out of the house. She wanted to run away from the cat -- to escape from its presence. Her supposed tour of the house was forgotten and she hurriedly ran out of the room and climbed down the stairs. When she was finally out of the house, she heaved a temporary sigh of relief.

But the next thing she saw made the hair on her neck stand up. She felt cold and her shoulders were filled with goosebumps. Katniss saw the only house near her -- a haunted looking house that emanated a strange aura.

Gathering all her courage, Katniss nervously walked towards that house. Maybe the people in there know me, she tried to convince herself.

From afar, the house looked scary. Taking a closer look was terrifying! The whole house was painted black. The shingles on the roof looked very ancient and they look like they're going to fall any minute. Since it was already afternoon, the people in the house turned on the lights which gave the windows a ghastly glow. The walls of the house look like it was about to collapse. The strangest thing was, a very thick mist lingered in the air and, take note, it was in the house's area only.

When Katniss was about to rush back to the house she woke up in for fear of the wicked thing that probably dwells in the house, she suddenly stopped dead in her tracks.

"How do you do?" an eerie old woman's voice called out.

Katniss looked over to her left, then to her right, searching for the source of the voice. But no one was there. Only a couple of rocks, trees and the house she woke up in. She was terrified -- thinking she was either going crazy or a ghost was playing tricks on her. But then, something in her gave her the feeling that she must look back at that haunted-looking house. She turned her head and saw a --.

Katniss screamed. The sight was scary, frightening, terrifying, horrendous, stomach-turning and all the other words in the dictionary that has the same meaning.

"It's alright my dear. No need to fear. Come near me." the voice bade.
