"Recognized: Robin, B20."
Impulse, aka, Bart Allen, jumped up as Robin, aka, Tim Drake, entered the living room of the newly rebuilt Mount Justice. He sped over to the Boy Wonder.
"Hey Tim," Bart said. Tim put a gloved hand over the speedster's mouth; it was warm, but Bart's cheeks were warmer. "Shh," Tim said, getting closer to the ginger teen's face. He like looked left to right. After seeing nobody, he turned back to Bart.
"Someone could've heard you," Robin said. "Don't you know I'm trying to keep a low profile?" Impulse said nothing, and Robin realized how close the two boys were. His cheeks turned scarlet, and he removed his hand from the speedster's mouth and stepped back.
Ugh, really Tim? Robin thought, walking away from Impulse. Bart's obviously straight as a line, why can't you accept that fact and leave it at that? Oh great, I'm so lovestruck I'm turning into Dr. Seuss.
"Recognized: Nightwing, B01; Flash, B03."
Tim groaned. I so don't need this. The older bird could read Robin like a book. He would clue in to the boy's affections, call him out on it, and thoroughly embarrass him.
Nightwing and Flash entered the living room with the same enthusiasm they had had seven years ago. Both walked in - holding hands to both young teens' observation - and sat down on the couch.
"Hey guys," Wally said cheerfully. "Hey," said Tim and Bart in blunt sync. "What's wrong you two?" Dick asked, sensing the two boys' obvious unhappiness. "Not feeling the aster?"
Tim looked at Bart, then looked away. He grabbed Dick's hand, tugging at it like an impatient child. "Can I talk to you?" He snuck another look at Bart. "Alone?"
The older bird looked confused for a moment, then blinked in realization. "Uh, sure." Standing up, he allowed himself to be dragged to the younger bird's room. Once they got there, Tim locked the door.
"Um, don't you think that's a little extreme, T?" Dick asked. "I don't care, D," Tim retorted, looking down. "I just really need to tell you something."
The younger boy didn't even to look up at Dick's wide grin to know he had peaked the boy's curiosity and interest. Tim had sensed his eldest brother lean in and cock his head subconsciously, like he always did when he was curious.
That was probably how he was always able to wrap Wally around his finger.
"What is it?" Dick asked, tapping his foot impatiently. Tim closed his eyes, took a deep breath, then blurted out, "I'm in love with Bart."
Silence.
Tim cracked open a masked teal orb and was met with a familiar smirk. "What's so funny?" he asked - well, actually, it was more of a demand.
"Oh, nothing," Dick told him. "Just the fact that you admitted it to the wrong person." Tim shook his head. "No. No way," he said. "What if he doesn't like me back? What if he doesn't want to be my friend anymore? What if-"
"Tim, slow down." Tim took a deep breath, then let it out. He looked down.
"Sorry, it's just..." Tim started, only for Dick to cut him off. "No, it's okay, I know what you're talking about," he said.
Tim's head snapped up. "Really?" he asked incredulously. Dick nodded. "Yep," he said. "I hid my feelings because Wally was always flirting with the girls. But then, I couldn't contain it anymore and I kissed him, 'cause, ya know, it was kinda in the moment. At first, I thought our friendship was over since he went silent for a while, but then he kissed back.
"And now I'm rambling," Dick said. "I came in here to help with your love life, and ended up talking about mine." He shook his head. "Anyway," he continued, turning to his younger brother, "what I'm saying is that you need to make your crush known to Bart before V-day.
"Privately, of course," Dick added. Tim nodded. "Alright, D," he said, "I'll try." Dick smiled his usual contagious grin, and Tim couldn't help but smile back.
(Meanwhile...)
Bart and Wally sat in the living room together, in silence. Then, Bart decided to ask, "What do you think they're talking about in there?"
Wally looked over at the teen. "The same thing I'm gonna talk to you about," he said. "What's that?" Bart asked. "Your obvious crush on Tim," Wally answered.
Bart blushed. "I...um..." he stammered. "Dude, it's okay," Wally said. "When I was young, I had no idea why I felt that way whenever I saw Dick. But then, there was this mission that we kissed each other on, and I realized, 'I'm in love with my best friend.'" Bart smiled at his cousin's words.
"So, what do you think I should do? Wait for a moment like that?" he asked. Wally shook his head. "No, I mean you should find a time to confess your feelings to Tim privately," he said.
"But, cuz, what if he doesn't like me back?" Bart asked the older speedster. "Dude, he will, trust me," Wally said, throwing an arm around Bart's shoulder.
