Amy's Point of View
I cracked my eyes open as if I was waking up in the morning to go to school. I felt weird and tingly everywhere as if someone was taking feathers and lightly tracing my skin with it. I slowly turned my head realising I was laying down somewhere. There was a road next to me and it was day time but something was strange about what I was seeing, although I was laying down, I wasn't on the ground, which was when it occurred to me, I was, floating?!
I screamed at the top of my lungs, desperately trying to scramble to my feet, Instead I lost my balance and fell forward. I stretched my arms out to stop my fall and clamped my eyes shut bracing myself for impact, but I didn't fall, I stayed at a 45 degree angle, my hands no where near the floor.
"Woah." I murmured adjusting to my position.
A old man walked past me on the pavement, shaking his head slightly.
"Newbie." he said carrying on with his walk.
I pushed the air with my arms, as if I was doing a push up and found myself standing about 15cm off the pavement.
"What the." I stated noticing the out of the ordinary power I had obtained.
"Is this, a dream?" I asked to myself still entranced by the fact I was standing on air.
I looked around me the road looked familiar with a busy intersection about 100 meters away from me but I didn't know why I remembered it. It was then I decided to take a leap of faith (or should I say a step of faith). I took a step in front of me and although it felt wobbly I took another and another until I had it down. I smiled to myself thinking I had just re-taught myself how to walk, and I was damn proud of it.
I realised I was about a five minutes from home and decided I take a walk.
When arrived home the front door was open which was unusual for Mum and Dad to do, but I walked in anyway.
"Mum, Dad, I'm home" I yelled walking through the house. My dog came running up to me and barking at me.
"Hey Pal! How is you?" I cooed at my old dog letting him lead me into the kitchen where I heard Mum and Dad's muffled voices.
"Hey guys" I greeted walking into the kitchen to see Mum holding a picture and crying whilst Dad looking distraught with his elbows on the table, his head in his hands.
"Hey, whats going on here?" I said walking over to Mum.
"M-mum?" I stammered placing a hand on Mum's shoulder, but instead my hand went through her shoulder.
I pulled my hand back in shock and felt it with my other hand, it seemed fine, but that tingly feeling had returned, but only in my hand.
"Dad." I said doing the same thing to him but again my hand just going through him too.
"What?" I stated quietly
I turned around to Pal and called him from his cushion he stumbled but made it to me, he panted loudly but when I tried to pet him my hand when through him too.
"Mum! Dad!" I called.
"Please Answer me, Please, I'm here I am look I'm standing right in front of you just look." I yelled tears brimming in my eyes.
I heard footsteps behind me. I turned around to see my brother, looking like all of his life have been drained out of him.
"Steven?" I asked stepping towards him.
My brother stepped through me, my entire body tingling. He walked over to Mum and collapsed at her feet.
"I am so,so sorry Mum." She lifted his head up and his body came with it and she hugged him the picture falling out of her hands I walked over to it and stared at it. It was me.
I noticed the bandage on his head and it flooded back to me.
The final goodbyes to the girls, the game...
The crash.
I couldn't have... died, could I?
I mean, I was still here.
"It wasn't your fault child." Mum said hushing Steve who was now crying.
I ran outside screaming and in tears.
"Help Me! Please Help!" I yelled to know one in particular.
"What's wrong?" a peppy girl asked standing in front of me, where did she come from?, she was looking at me like I was crazy, she looked like she could be around 30 with long dark brown wavy hair and piercing blue eyes.
"You can, s-see me?" I stuttered finally talking to someone.
"Of course, I can see you silly." she said cocking her head to the side a little bit.
"But my parents, and my brother" I said looking back at my house.
"Oh you only just became one of us, didn't you?" she asked sympathetically.
I gulped at the word 'us' before nodding.
"Let's go for a walk then, I'm Corrie by the way." She said moving past me, looking back at me as if to follow her.
I looked down at her feet and noticed she was also hovering above the ground, I whatever she was, I was too.
"Amy." I stated walking up next to her
I walked with her until we got to a park and we sat down on the bench.
"What's going on?" I asked her.
"Well sweetie, you're a ghost."
I was scared she was going to say that, I really was, dead.
"Will I be like this forever?" I asked looking away from her.
"Well, no, you see, when you die, when it isn't your time to, you get caught it this state. When it is your time you will go."
"What?" I asked utterly confused.
"Well how did you die?" She asked.
"Car crash, drunk driver. How did I know that?" I asked myself.
"We all know how we die in the end, it's a mechanism that built into us so that even if we don't see how we die we still know every thing about it." She explained.
I looked at her still confused.
"Or right, well you see, it wasn't your time to die, that driver killed you, if you kill yourself on purpose someone else kills you then you will get stuck here until it would have been your real time to go."
"How long can that take?" I asked.
"A long time, some people are stuck here for over 50 years."
I shuttered at the Idea of staying like this for so long without anyone I know.
Corrie explained all the in's and out's of this state but there was one thing caught my attention.
"In some cases there is a glitch in this state, in which ghosts like us will be able to interact with 5 humans as long as you aren't related to them."
Corrie explained to me if the glitch worked how I would use it and I immediately decided what I was going to do, I was going to use the glitch on the girls. If I was going to have to spend forever like this I would want to spend it with them.
"Thank you, Corrie" I said standing up but stumbling to get my footing.
"Don't worry, it will get easier," she said grabbing my hand stopping me for falling again.
"I will see you around Amy" She said disappearing before my eyes.
I had to learn how to do that but now it was time to visit the girls.
