I got the base idea from someone's Dnf oneshot book, but I can't remember their username. The idea for one of the two to be mute and use LED lights to convey emotions is not my idea.
*This is sort of like a spin-off for one of my own Aus. In this Dream was possessed and when whatever possessed him was removed, he became a selective mute. He currently lives with George. I don't know much about selective mutism so I'm sorry if I get anything wrong*
"Dream? You there?" George asked as he knocked on the door for his roommate's bedroom. He didn't expect a vocal answer but wasn't necessarily surprised when he heard footsteps and soon the door opened.
Standing on the other side of the door was Dream, who still had his hand on the side of the birch door, with his messy blond curls loosely in a ponytail and a questioning look in his forest-green eyes. Not emerald eyes, but ones that looked like the forest had taken over, spaces between some treetops revealing the muddy ground underneath. George learned quickly that Dream never had emerald eyes naturally, they were a sign of possession. Something that only a still-unnamed individual was able to tell.
Behind Dream, George was able to see an unmade bed, the red comforter twisted with the white undersheet and the pillow somewhere in the mess. The desk in the corner had a few papers scattered across it but otherwise, everything else was organized with an open book in the middle with the lamp on. Along the top of the walls were LED lights that were soon put up after George realized that Dream wasn't ready to talk to him yet. Currently, they were off, which was common for when he was alone in his room.
"I just finished helping Sapnap and Karl-" George didn't miss the small flinch Dream did at Sapnap's name "-so I was wondering if you wanted some company?" Dream shrugged and moved to the side, motioning for George to come in. As George sat down at the foot of the bed Dream grabbed the controller for the LEDs and pressed two buttons on it. The lights came to life to show a light gray color. Dream tended to use this color when he wasn't feeling one strong emotion. "What were you reading?"
Before sitting next to him, Dream grabbed the book from off the desk. He showed the burnet the cover. Sara B. Larson, Defy was written over a green cover with a dagger that had a rose on the bunt. George had never heard of the book, but he had to admit the cover, although simple, made the book look interesting.
"Do you like it so far?" A smile spread onto Dream's face as he nodded, resting the book on his lap. "That's good. Did someone give it to you?"
Dream made a fist and made his wrist go limp before placing his hand on his chest then moving so his thumb was touching his forehead and his other fingers were spread apart. Over the few months, George had picked up a few things in sign language, so he was able to tell what Dream had said. "Yes. My dad."
The blond in front of him never talked about his family much, but George knew he kept in contact with them. "That was nice of him," Dream nodded as his fingers tapped on the back of the LED controller. "I know you have a sister, but do you have any other siblings?" He knew it was a little risky to ask him about this, but George figured that a simple question like this might be okay.
In a blink of an eye Dream had out his communicator, it was relatively new since his last one was so broken. This one wasn't as decorated or personalized as everyone else's, but instead was a smoke shade of gray with green buttons. Dream quickly typed something then showed the screen to his friend.
"Just one other, a little brother. He's a chaotic little gremlin." George laughed at that, not noticing how Dream changed his LED lights to a light blue, the color he associated with happiness. And that just so happened to be George's favorite color. Dream typed something else before making a face, deleting it, and typing something else. "What were you helping with?" Over time George had started to notice that Dream avoided using Sapnap's name, or the male in general. He had no clue why, but he had to guess it had something to do with that time period.
