Chapter 6: Attention...yuck

“You look amazing June,” Sarah said smiling, “You did before too, but now your drop dead gorgeous.”

“Thanks Sarah, but how come I’ve never seen you at school?” I asked in confusion

“Oh well, I don’t make fun of you or anything and well I guess you just never see me,” she said still smiling. I’m glad she didn’t make fun of me like everyone else, and maybe in the future we could be friends. “June, would you like to hangout tomorrow?”

“Yeah, I would love it, I’ll be the one with all the attention,” I said laughing.

“Yeah I guess so, maybe Brad will possibly leave you alone right? But all those boys will be all over you!” she said giggling and blushing.

“Well, I guess I’ll find you tomorrow. I have one more store to stop at before I go home. It was nice meeting you Sarah,” I said smiling. She offered to hug me, I shockingly hugged her back. I didn’t realize how much I miss having at least one friend. I shunned away from my friends, I was well I was scared they would hurt me like my father and Brad did. Who would want to experience that again?  The pain surged through me as I thought about the recent conversation I had with my father. Why was he angry with me? I was speaking the one hundred percent truth, and what can he do about it? He doesn’t own me. He doesn’t love me. He doesn’t want me. All he wants is all of his money back, and to no avail he won’t get any of it back. Why would he? I mean, who cares if it’s his money he doesn’t deserve it back.

I walked out of Style One, Two, Three and headed over to the Verizon store.  I walked into the store and three heads snapped in my direction. I looked at the people looking at me and noticed it was three boys from my school, staring from my feet up to my face. I smirked in victory and walked over to where all the phones were. I looked for about twenty minutes, until I heard footsteps coming up behind me.  I spun around and saw him.

“Hi June,” he said slowly, his eyes searching up and down my body.

“Hey, you call me a loser before and ruined my clothes today, so go away before I scream,” I said smiling sweetly.

“I’m sorry! They forced me to do it, you look amazing! I never thought you were like this,” he said shocked.

“Hayden, I would love to hear your lovely little lies, but I have places to be and here with you isn’t one of them.” I said coldly with a smile.

“Sorry,” he mumbled and walked away. He thinks he could do that and then once I change, I would go back to him? Well one thing’s for sure I will never like him for what he did to me.  I might have told him to make peace with them, but did that mean he had to poor soggy apple sauce down my shirt? No, it didn’t mean that. I looked at the phones, and finally found one I liked. It was called the Droid. I called someone over and asked them to get the phone for me.

“Did everything work out ok?” the man asked me.

“Yeah thanks, what’s the number?” I asked wanted to try and memorize it soon as possible.

“Uhm, its (932)-555-5646, why?” he said smiling flirtatiously.

“I need to know what number not to give to guys,” I said smiling sweetly.
