Jade's P.O.V.
"May I ask why?" I sigh feeling all the air in my lungs leave.
"I'm cheating on you. I know you probably found out already because one of my friends texted you." He looks at the ground "I'm also hurting you, I can't believe how I talked to you last night. And it wasn't even you who I was mad at which makes it even worse."
"Is it Abby?" I choke out, my throat burning as I fight back my tears.
"Yes, it started when you went to that music conference. I'm sorry, I accused you of breaking my trust and I was the one being unfaithful. I can't keep doing this to you, you honestly deserve so much better."
"That was eight months ago," I whisper to myself "You're only telling me about it because you know about the text I got."
"No, I-" he starts talking.
"Yes, I wasn't going to suggest breaking up, I didn't even think you would cheat on me. I assumed you were just hiding hanging out with her because you wanted to get back at me for the whole Joshua situation." I start to yell.
He just stares at me as I continue to yell "But you've been doing this for MONTHS, every time you left abruptly or left me sitting alone because you forgot about a date. You were just with someone else."
"I'm sorry," he says reaching out to me.
"Do not touch me unless you want to get punched," I warn him "I cannot handle my anger right now I have to go. Have fun doing whatever you want now."
I storm off and get into my car driving off. I turn on the radio to try and drown out my thoughts.
"Forget this, I'm calling Joshua and we're getting Dairy Queen," I call him.
"Hey Princess," He answers the phone after one ring.
"Meet me outside, we're going out." I say.
"I'm taking it your little meeting didn't go well," I hear shuffling going on.
"Well, he's been cheating on me for months," I can feel a lump forming in my throat "so no, it didn't go well at all."
I hear him sigh "I'll be waiting outside."
I finally pull into the driveway and Joshua quickly gets into the car. He doesn't say anything he just sits there for a moment.
"Where are we going?" He asks.
"Dairy Queen."
He nods his head as we continue driving. We pass by the park where Aaron and I first kissed. I watch as children run around the tree, he carved our initials in. I take a left and look for the bright red sign.
"Are you okay?"
"No, but there's not much I can do," I bite my cheek "He did it while I was at a church event. While I was learning how to get the congregation to be more involved in worship, he was doing his own community outreach."
"Jade, I'm sorry," he says grabbing my hand.
"It's okay," I sigh "At least I found out now before we got married and had kids."
I get out of the car and head in with Joshua close behind me. We get in and I immediately go up and order a choco dipped strawberry blizzard, large fry, and sweet tea. I let Joshua order as I get my wallet out of my purse.
We sit down and I just scroll through my phone, and I feel him staring at me.
"What?" I roll my eyes at him.
"I'm sorry I want to make you feel better, but I don't know how, do I go and beat up the dude that did this to you or do I tell you how perfect you are and what he did was the stupidest mistake ever?"
"That's very sweet, but right now all I want is to know you're here for me," I laugh "But if I ever want to see Aaron with a bloody nose, you'll be the first person I ask."
I reach over and grab his hand, which causes him to smile. I quickly take it back and grab my phone and delete Aaron from my contacts. I can't quite bring myself to block it, I mean I was with the guy for years. I don't want to be with him, I just don't know if I want him out of my life yet.
"Is it sad I wish he hadn't told me and just broke up with me," I laugh.
"Depends on why you feel that way?" He shrugs.
"Well we grew up together and even before we dated, we were best friends. Every youth event we sat next to each other and then my grandparents were even hoping we'd help out more with the youth group." by now tears are running down my face and I'm aggressively wiping them away "Then I leave for three days and all of that is taken away, if he hadn't have told me I would still have the kind boy who I grew up with."
I can feel his eyes on me but instead I rest my face in my hands using my hair fall around me covering me, I used to do this as a kid when I felt overwhelmed.
"It's just such a big change I wasn't ready for and if they get together how am I supposed to walk around the school and see it." I sob.
He just scoots over and wraps an arm around me and says "Well I'll be there for you always."
I lean into the hug and we sit there like that for a while eating ice cream and relaxing. I needed to calm myself down for a bit just so I wasn't sobbing in the middle of a dairy queen.
Soon I get a text in my bible club group chat from my best friend that says
Bible Brunch tomorrow still?
I had totally forgotten about that, but I know I can't cancel they've been excited about it. It was what we decided to do since we raised extra money after we bought bibles and curriculum.
Yesss of course so excited remember my house at ten. There will be a waffle bar so bring your appetites!! Love y'all so excited to see you tomorrow
I hit send and realize its already almost 7 "Joshua I totally spaced that were having brunch tomorrow at my house so I need to go to the store and get waffles and the stuff to put on them and sides. It's just a whole mess." I smile at him and he's already grabbing our trash. We make our way out and head to the store.
