"What the hell are they doing to that baby!?"

          Lumine and Paimon turned around to see the person who owned that voice. She was a girl with quite comfortable clothes, although somewhat powdered as if she had been working outside for a while, Lumine and Paimon could tell that she was clearly angry from her tone of voice and her face. The traveler and her guide couldn't understand what was happening. The stranger ran looking up and reached out her arms to catch what fluttered in the sky. It was a dendro slime that the blonde had sent flying with her anemo tornado.

"I don't think you should touch that slime." Paimon spoke with concern.

           The girl caught the slime once the effect of the tornado wore off. The little dendro slime had tears in its eyes and was dizzy. On the other hand, Lumine and Paimon were surprised to see that the creature didn't react in a hostile way to her.

"What's wrong with you to attack a poor innocent being!?"

"Huh!? That slime was the one who attacked us, they are hostile." Said Paimon. "We just defended ourselves."

"That's ridiculous. Slimes are not hostile. You must have walked close to where it was buried. They only attack when they feel threatened."

"Sorry, but who are you?" Lumine asked.

"The name's (y/n), and I'm a slime rancher."

"A what? I've never heard of that."

"I've got no time to chat with you, I need to take care of this little buddy. If you're interested then follow me."

           While the three of them were walking towards the ranch, (y/n) told them about her job. She said that she's part of an association that was founded to protect slimes due to the abuses they often suffer. People usually think that slimes are bad and that they attack anyone they see, which is not true. In the best of cases, people spared them or just ran away, in the worst of cases they injure them badly or even kill them. (y/n)'s job is to find and aid any slimes she found that are in bad conditions, she also takes to the ranch slimes that are way too close to places where humans live, and lastly, there's a special team which is in charge of rescuing pyro slimes that are used by hilichurls to make bombs. Once slimes were healthy, they realized them back into the wild.

          Once they got to the slime ranch they saw how it was divided into sections, each type of slime had its own zone. There was a place that functioned as a small hospital, another place was special for slimes who had trouble integrating with their kind. Another thing that caught their attention was a sign at the entrance that said 'stop slime abuse', and just below that sign there was a hydro slime which was wearing a small nurse hat, it seemed very happy to see (y/n).

"Hey there, Ocean. Could you tell the others that we have a new patient?"

          The hydro slime, whose name seemed to be Ocean, jumped into the hospital right in front of them. (y/n) explained to them that Ocean had problems adapting with other hydro slimes, and no matter how hard they tried to integrate him, it wasn't possible, so it ended up being adopted by her and it became her adorable assistant.

"I didn't know a place like this existed," Paimon stated.

"Now I feel guilty for harming slimes..." Lumine spoke.

"Yeah, you should stop attacking slimes just because." Paimon replied.

"I can't believe you people do things like that." (y/n) sighed, she was clearly still mad at them.

           Lumine bit her lower lip, she really felt bad about hurting and killing slimes, the guilt that she now had on her conscience incited her to offer herself as a temporary volunteer, plus she was slightly interested in the slime rancher, she didn't know if it was because of her peculiar work or what, but she felt the need to get to know her more.

"Here you go."

           (y/n) gave Lumine a glass of water. Several weeks had passed since the traveler began to be the temporary assistant of (y/n) along with Ocean. It was a tiring job; at first, the girl had her doubts about whether Lumine would do a good job, she didn't care if she was the Honorary Knight of Favonius, anyone who hurt slimes just because couldn't be friends with (y/n), but surprisingly Lumine proved to be worthy of her trust and affection for the excellent work she had done those weeks. Lumine took special care of the dendro slime that she had sent flying with her powers as a sign of her repentance.

"So... today it's your last day, huh?" (y/n) sat down next to her and Ocean. "I'm gonna miss you, it was fun having you around, and I bet that dendro slime thinks the same."

           At first, Dendry, as Lumine nicknamed it, was somewhat fearful of the traveler, but as the days went by, the two became close, and Dendry began to like her. The blonde had gotten used to this new routine as well, spending time taking care of the dendro slime, and then spending the rest of the day with (y/n). Lumine never thought she would find someone like her, she thought it was wonderful how determined and dedicated she was to give the best to slimes, creatures that other people (and including herself) judged and attacked without even knowing them, but thanks to people like (y/n) slimes could be understood, and for Lumine that was a charming aspect of her, the way her eyes sparkled when the slimes recovered or when she saw them happy made Lumine feel a peculiar tingle.

"Thank you for everything." Lumine said while petting Ocean.

"Why are you thanking me?"

"I guess for showing me a new perspective about slimes. I'd love to stay more time here with you, but I need to find my brother."

"Don't worry about that. We can go out some other time, just the two of us."

"Like a date!?" Paimon said popping out of nowhere.

"Paimon! Shhh!" Lumine tried to cover her companion's mouth, but she flew far enough to avoid that.

"What!? You were complaining yesterday about how you didn't know when you were going to see her again and that there was some stuff you wanted to do together." Paimon replied.

           Lumine's cheeks were crimson red while (y/n) laughed at her cute ashamed face.

"I don't mind if it's a date, it'd be nice to do something else that isn't slime related. You can come over whenever you want."

           (y/n) randomly kissed Lumine's cheek just to tease her and went looking for Dendry to give it to the traveler since she was going to realize it back into the wild once she continued her trip. Paimon could have a big mouth sometimes, but at least she helped to set Lumine up with her new crush.
