I return to work the next day a bit late but it's nothing to worry about. There's still half an hour before the daycare opens.
"Y/N! I was starting to get worried. I thought you weren't coming back." sundrop greeted me
"yeah sorry about that. Hit some traffic. Besides, I'd never quit without letting you know first, sunny. I wouldn't just abandon you like that." I replied, tapping his nose. His plastered smile seemed to grow a bit as he went in for a hug. He wrapped his limbs around me, picking me up and spinning me until I felt dizzy. I stumbled a bit when he met me go.
"Whoops, sorry" Sundrop apologized.
"Let's get to work" I smiled, picking up some crayons and organising one of the craft stations. 8am rolls around and kids start showing up in mass amounts. Before we know it, we're overwhelmed with the amount of kids.
I'm talking 5 people's worth, for a team of one human and an animatronic. Things were not looking good for us.About an hour in and we were pretty sure we had everything handled. Except for these two tricky brats.
Twins, creepy as hell, only existed to cause trouble, it was like their life's goal. These two were destruction machines. At one end of the room, one would be harassing other kids. Throwing blocks at them, throwing them in the ball pit, trying to throw kids through the play structures, while the other would be wrecking art stations and destroying the map area at the opposite side of the daycare.
Just those two alone caused so much chaos. We tried putting them in time out but every time, they managed to escape the corner because we still had the other kids to take care of. Then, I hit my breaking point with these two. Sundrop was watching one in timeout when the other kicked a girl into a pile of legos. I heard her cry and rushed over
"COME GET THIS ONE, TOO" I called out to sundrop as I picked up the poor girl. He grabbed the one he was watching by the shirt, carrying him with to take his brother to time out. The one who kicked the girl was kicking and screaming that he did nothing wrong.
"That's it!" I said to myself while getting the girl patched up.
"I'm calling their parents." I know that the management wants calling the parents to be an 'emergencies only' thing, but these kids have officially crossed that line. I pick up the phone at the daycares security desk, still holding the injured girl, and begin to dial the number on file when I hear from the ball pit"SUNDROP LOOK AT ME!"
Sundrop turned around to see the kid jump into the ball pit.
"Very nice, Kyle!" Sundrop responded.
"SUNNY WATCH THEM!" I yelled, referring to the twins.
"Uhh...y/n?"
"Yes?" I ask, turning my head to see an empty corner.
Then the lights went out. Great. This is the last thing I needed today.
I set down the girl under the desk, immediately going to wrangle up children and protect them from both moondrop and nightmares. While also trying to make my way to the light switch. I start sending each kid I pass by to hide with the others under the security desk when I see moondrop.
Shit. He's chasing one of the twins.
"JEREMY!" I yell to the kid "GET TO THE DESK!" I yell, pointing at the security desk and running towards moondrop. God, I hope this plan works.
"MOON" he pauses to look at me. I run and tackle moon.
"HAYLIE, PRESS THE LIGHTSWITCH!" I yell to a girl near the switch.
"But sun said never touch it" she responds. Moon starts fighting to get back up.
"TRUST ME PLEASE" I respond, keeping him down the best I can. And the lights turn back on. Thank god."Uhh...y/n?" I hear sundrop say from beneath me. I open my eyes to see sundrops face completely red.
Hmm...
Well...now we have another problem...I didn't realize this when it was dark but I look down and see my waist on sundrops. I let go of his hands, covering my face in embarrassment.
I could feel my face flush beneath my hands. My heart was thumping in my ears and I was paralysed.
"Y/n?" Sun said again, snapping me out of my embarrassment. I began standing up
"Oh yeah sorry I-" sundrop grabbed my arm while I was apologizing
"Are you okay, Y/N?" I stopped, half crouched down, staring in shock.
"Yeah I-I'm fine" I replied.
The rest of my shift went fine. I was definitely in a bit of a funky state after that, just a bit...preoccupied mentally.
Everything went fine...until I tried to go home.
In the chaos of coming in late, I lost my keys.
