september 2nd 1977.

"melanie i'm telling you that way is just not efficient at all!" i exclaimed playfully.

my bestfriend mel stared at me from across the room befote rolling her eyes, "why not? i see no flaw."

"both of you shut up please i just want to sleep."

"sorry zabini." mel responded rolling her eyes. "let's go to breakfast"

i pulled my book bag over my shoulder. checking my appearance one last time in the mirror. we made our way out of our dorm through the common room and eventually made it to the great hall. mel and i slid in our usual seats and we grabbed food placing it on our plates.

"god i'm tired, this year is going to be crazy i'm not prepared for it at all." mel groaned grabbing a piece of bread and began to layer jam on it.

i laughed softly, "we'll be fine we always have, haven't we? five years gone and done! what is it? only this and next year and poof! we are done. no more sharing a dorm with zabini. no more!" i explained.

she smiled nodding in agreement but slowly i watched her smile fade as i heard footsteps approaching.

"good morning macleod." a voice sternly said behind me.

i turned around rolling my eyes slightly, "good morning black, care to take a seat beside me?" the boy nodded sliding in the spot beside me.

mel looked at him unamused, "morning reg, nice to see you too." she said sarcastically.

"morning."

the remainder of breakfast was rather silent.

"i'm going to leave. i'll see you period two."

"okay see you."

mel was quick to get up and leave after saying goodbye. placing her now used dishes all so nicely and slinging her bag filled to the brim with books over her shoulder. my eyes followed her as she left the great hall. it had almost like i had been holding a breath in this whole time us three were sat together. me letting it out once she was beyond my vision. along with myself, regulas had let out a sigh, a sigh of relief? disappointment who knows.

"thank merlin she left one more minute here i would've lost it."

"well what's got you all in a twist. why so eager to talk to me alone, what's wrong." i spat at him.

he held up his hands defensively, "calm it, you think i would've willingly waited this whole time just for you to snap to me? do you think i'm that patience with you macleod."

"you know my first name." i mumbled back. "use it."

"you think you're so special, because you got to go to hogwarts a year early because of your blood. because everyone in your family has gone a year early! but you're younger than me. grow up. because the dark lord is watching and you are not looking good. why wont you behave."

"why are you acting like this reggie... talk to me. what's wrong with you?"

"he threatened to kill us."

the quidditch pitch was usually busy as it had been every year. it was the first day of school. people were already preparing for the next school year season, quidditch games were filled with prestige and pride. what counter most to house points to the house cups. i watched as many students flew around the pitch. this was probably one of the only times all four houses agreed to a game and well, no one tried to beat each other up. all playing together and respecting the game. hufflepuffs, gryffindors, ravenclaws and most surprisingly slytherin students.
