september 1st 1972.

soft footsteps echoed through the home when i first woke. reaching my arms out stretching i slowly began to open my eyes to adjust to the light that filled my room. it was a chilly morning considering it was the first day of autumn but a nice one none the less. my home was cold, and silent. i could only assume my younger brother antony was playing downstairs explaining the footsteps.

he was still only a small boy, despite being one year younger than me. unlike leo, whom was one year older than me. he held that against me ever since we were younger. always been slightly taller, slightly smarter and slightly more hated by our parents.

i was scared of going down the same path, nothing feered me more than today. my first day at hogwarts my first day of the next seven years. if the sorting hat calls out the wrong name, i fear my parents especially my mother will never look me in the eye again. that i was being rebellious, but i would never go against our name. i was in the macleod family thick and thin. living up to my name would forever be my goal.

after half a hour or so i finally decided to slip out of my bed, grabbing the robe which laid at the end of it and slipped it on. walking down the stairs as i got closer to the dining hall the louder and more apparent voices of my family were.

as i walked in my father was sitting at the end of the table, reading the newest addition of the daily prophet, antonypromptly reading over his shoulder as best as he could. opposite side of the table my mother, who was shining some type of necklace.

i walked over to her kissing her on the cheek, "good morning mama," then i proceeded to walk to where my father was sitting and gave him a kiss on the cheek, "good morning papa."

"morning dear." he responded softly.

"we will be leaving to the platform in one hour. go tell your worthless brother the same, and make sure he's not late." mother spat at me. it sent shivers down my spine every time she talked about leo like that. but i wouldn't necessarily blame her, he embarrassed her, he went against the name. he is the heir to the throne in a way.

i walked up the stairs, to the very top room where leo's was. far away from everyone else and i knocked lightly.

"adriana if you have come to yell at me leave it for christmas, i do not care." he yelled from inside. i rolled my eyes and pushed the door open. "oh, it's just you." he said in a much softer tone.

"we're leaving in a hour, so don't be late."

"i wont, i promise." as soon as he responded i turned and close the door behind me before i went down and walked to my own room to prepare myself.

on the platform there were so many wizards, more than i have properly seen in my lifetime. my mother helf a tight grip on my shoulders, "if i receive a letter saying you have followed in your brothers footsteps and are in that stupid house, don't come home for christmas or anytime soon." she whispered in my ear. "understood y/n?"

"understood. well i best be going now. i'll send a letter as soon as i know." she gave me a firm nod and i hugged her then hugged my father, "see you, hopefully."

"you will be fine, and either way you are always welcomed back home. you're my little girl." i smiled before pulling away then hugging antony.

antony shot me a toothy grin, "gonna miss you, send me letters as many as you can."

"i'll miss you to tony of course i will."

i shot each of them a quick smile before boarding the train. as i walked through the halls close to every compartment was full, until i spotted one with three girls inside. it was the best chance i had. i slipped my head through, "can i sit with you guys?"
