Sunny thought it would be sweet to introduce me to the children on my first day. He also encouraged me to keep wearing my pajamas during the day. That bit was sweet at least.
"Hello, little sunshines! You guys may have noticed, but I'm going to say it anyway!" he declared, whimsically moving his arms. There truly was no other way to describe it.
Some children tilted their heads. The youngest couldn't be more than three years old.
I cringed a bit before he spoke again.
"This is the lovely Y/N! They're going to be our new friend here in the daycare. They might be a bit shy at first but, if we give them some time, I'm sure we can make their stay here as amazing as possible," he continued. While I appreciated the 'lovely' bit, I could not help but notice just how right he was.
The size of the daycare alone made me feel tiny in comparison. It might help to focus on my job in front of me rather than think about that. If only that were possible with this many children.
"Sun-"
"Yes, Cloudy??" he butted in. Some of the children had already left and started playing elsewhere.
"Err... Where do we start?" I asked. I was a bit lost, yet I really wanted to know how he oversees the daycare. The employees at the desk only register the children as they come in.
"I'm so very glad you asked!" He turned his heads to the kids, "What do you think, friends? What should we do? Tag? Hide and Seek? Crafts?? What about story time?"
Looking at the kids, they seemed a bit overwhelmed. One girl spoke up. She might've been seven or eight years old.
"What about story time?" she asked, playing with her hair a little. Sunny looked delighted at her answer. The other children must've thought it was good too since they all seemed to smile.
"Wonderful decision, Eve! Just please don't go to the desk again. Please," he added. I assumed that was one of the rules for the children.
Sunny sat down, crossing his legs. His head seemed to rock as if it could rotate like Moon's.
"Now who should go first?"
"What about Cloudy?" one child called from a slide away from them. Were they all listening? It made me feel quite nervous. My vocabulary could be a bit mature sometimes.
It took me almost all of my mental strength not to say, 'fuck no' to a child. Maybe I should've changed my major in college.
"Cloudy? Would you be ok telling a story?" Sunny asked. He seemed nervous for me.
"To be truthful, children, I don't really have a story to tell," I said, trying to blow it off. They weren't having it.
Sunny looked around for a second as if monitoring the children who weren't in front of us. He then looked back at me, dropping his head in his hands, thinking.
"Everyone has a story. Usually, I like telling the story of The Sleepiest Moon!" He wasn't going to let me off since I didn't tell him no.
I tried to think of a story. Hopefully it'd be a long one that would put the children in a sleepy mood.
"Would you guys like to hear about how stars come to be?" I asked, being very thankful for that astrology class I had to take.
While the children seemed content, Sunny seemed to be over the moon. He did a little twirl.
"That sounds wonderful! Get comfortable children," He turned to me, "I've been curious about this for a while, but the staff never have time to tell me."
